Burton
Hah sell the king, eat my arse. Maybe monty should think when they make their next frame, funky seatube gusset things, or a decent strength chainstay. Keep you king. You've got to be daft to get rid of a hub or any part part for a frame. Zoo! or Echo Team short is your best bet.....otherwise you aint got much options for short frames, that will last. Also those two frames have been dropped down to £300 each! You got to buy one now!!!

hugh_b
There's no way people can say 2004/2005/2006 monty ti's are weak, i have a had 2 and found both to be absolutely solid bikes, the only people saying they crack are people running profiles when told not to becase theyre like 4mm wider than a monty hub or people who dont have a clue and just comment for the sake of it. No i personally wouldnt buy a cracked frame because it wont be as strong as a new one but it's up to you and your budget. By the way people who have cracked the monty's tend to change bk and forth from monty wheels to profiles etc so this puts a hell of alot of stress on the frame. -Hugh Keep you king. To be honest mate echo teams and zoo's dont compare in strength and quality of a monty. saw someone land on a big steel bolt on the downtube at a comp not so long ago and there wasnt even the slightest dent only a small scratch!!!! Monty's are deffo built and designed better than the zoo etc, the metal they use is stronger too.
CurtisRider
To be honest mate echo teams and zoo's dont compare in strength and quality of a monty ermmmm i like montys but the general thing is you get sweet geo and shit strength with them and yet no zoos have snapped yet? well as far as im aware of

Everyone just goes on what they used to be like but since 2004/2005 they are possibly the best mod bike going. also the only monty's that have cracked are the ones where people run profiles which they are told not to because it really bends the frame out. Burton
Montys are comp frames. they are weak FACT. Echo/Zoo! are street UCI/BIU frames so are built to last. Matt Akwright threw a mallet at his '05 monty and the downtube is well dented, 'cos he rounded off a bolt  Name a few riders that ride a Monty, doing Street UCI/BIU, that last over 6 months. Danny Foster gets a new one when he likes, same with Walker. I'm not saying they ride horrible(Walkers new un did though:S), just they aren't built to last, where as a Echo/Zoo!/Zona( ;) ) are, and still ride sweet. CurtisRider
have you actually ever owned a monty m8? just so happens i do  and i love it to bits but my mates have had troubles with theirs, even with normal monty hubs, tis a shit ;) but to be fair they were the pre 04 models id still buy another one anyway, they piss over other frames in terms of rideability-i hate all this long bike shit, it doesnt feel right, but meh each to thier own

But to anyone on here monty are the way to go as far as i am concerned.
CurtisRider
definately, im gonna copy a 221 ti frame in steel, not long now til my welder comes.....i hope :- i think thatd be the ultimate mod frame  espeacilally for me as i wanna run v brakes and itll be fixable if anything cracks without that heat treating crap(Y) altho the monty x alp (steel thing, high with a seat) has got to be the sweetest frame ive ridden in ages, no joke! feckin love it anywho thats not what this post is about, personally i wouldnt go for the secondhand monty, purely because of these cracking issues+its likely you dont know how much abuse it has received, id buy 1 new and since you have 'sources' you can prob get a new un cheap ;)

crazy_gap girl
iv got the 05 with a king in it iv had the monty brand new from April this year and iv been running th king in it for about 2 months or so.. i am aware that it will crack sooner or later but its a risk im willing to take, in your case the frame is older and is already stretched.. if you ran a eno which would strech it back would probly make it weaker.. its a tough discition(sp?) lol its up to you what you buy and if you want and like they way the monty is then do what you thinks right... the zona does sound tempting... Backgren
I run my monty 05 with a profile, has been fine for 9 months. I did crack one of the earliest 221ti's near the BB, but with a standard monty hub. Anyway, I now have a different spacer on the Profile, home made, that has taken the width down to ~107mm's Here's a pic of Johans bike, with a similar spacer: You see the silver bit on the hub, on the left side to the chainstay.
