Fixed Cogs On Cranks

Get the bastid off without killing it to bit's? I got a echo bash gaurd and want to put it on but i can't because of the fixed cog..... could i go about getting the thing off so it is usable again afing it off?

you need to inventive with your techniques....

I'd recommend an old chain, a decent vice, some old bits of wood, a sturdy mallet/hammer, and possibly an old BB.

You should be able to work some way out with that lot.

Wooden vice, or wood in a metal vice, clamp it down and hit it with a mallet. (Y)

im having the same problem, it just aint budging (Y)

also, try putting ur crank n cog in the freezer for a bit, then puor hot hot water over the cog :-

that should free it up a little :P

woo, mine came off, just wack the cog in a vice and twat the crank(with a bit of handlebar grip on for protection) with a hammer :-

i think its the sudden bang that loosens it, not excessive leverage (Y)
