echo_olie123
Hay people its finally happend. for those of you who dont know what im talking about, which is mainly all of you. A few weeks ago me and my riding companions (Beau, Tom, Oak and Wayne aka the ginger man) found a lovley crack around the welding on my back break mount. It was my falt because i wasn't running a booster but that was because i did'nt have the money. To start of with the crack wasn't to bad but now its gone all the way around the top mount on the right hand side and my break just wont stay in place any more. i need to know should i be echo olie no more and purchase a zona or get it welded. Please help! Olie P.S eather way im getin a booster dont worry
Trials Dave
what some people do is they drill a small hole just in front of the direction the crack is going. this usually stops the crack travelling any further.
bridgyisgay
hey i ride with adam, ian, ross etc from bromsgrove. do you fancy riding bristol on friday?
Si-man
What year is the team frame??? If its a new 1 then you should get a replacement but if its old then warranty will have run out :D
Mark W
As long as you've got the receipt and the name of the place you bought it from (and it's within the year warranty), you *might* be able to get something. However, because you didn't run a booster it's unlikely. I'd really recommend the Zona Zip though, I love mine :D
RicH_87
if a bike has to have a booster to not crack, it should be sold with a booster as standard. thats like a car rusting becasue it wasn't sold with paint. Its not your fault.
Technical Tom
To start of with the crack wasn't to bad but now its gone all the way around the top mount on the right hand side and my break just wont stay in place any more. Yeah it started off quite small now its really bad and flexes so bad. So when when will you be getting your Zona :D Thanks, Tom

Its not your fault. If a fork requires a headset to turn, shouldn't it be sold with a headset? If a crank requires a BB to spin on, shouldn't it be sold with a BB? Your arguement makes no sense :D You don't get bashguards with all frames in the same way you don't get headsets, BB's, stems, bars, forks, etc. with new frames. You're buying the FRAME, not the FRAME AND A BOOSTER?
RicH_87
It does make sense. A frame doesn't NEED a booster to run a brake (or at least it shouldn't), however forks NEED a headset, and cranks NEED a BB, thats just common sense. A booster by definiton it to stop frame flex, not frame breakage. A £300 trials specific frame shouldn't brake just cos it hasn't got a booster. Thats f**king rediculous and you know it. emery
Thats true as I cant stand you pay loads and expect it to do what its susposed to do without breaking . And as its an echo aswell which are a leading trials brand. toby

You're buying the FRAME, not the FRAME AND A BOOSTER? ye but mark you dont need a booster for the brake to work in the way you do a headset for the fork to turn etc, it just improves preformance. i dont think a frame should crack because of the absence of a booster. maybe im wrong who knows :P
echo_olie123
Hay well its the 04 echo team and i avent got a reciept because i brout it as a hole bike off ebay. and i cant ride bristole because the crack flexes so bad it just moves the intire break so it want stay in place any more sorry. Thanks every one for your posts they have been realy helpful. I think i will be geting a zona zip but until i have the money for that im going to get the frame welded and buy a big fat hevy as hell booster :P Thankis every one Olie
mat hudson
try get a booster off someone or if all else fails, jubilee clamp it :P and if your gonna get the frame welded, why not weld a block of alu on as an intergrated booster :- Edited September 26, 2005 by mathuds0

A booster by definiton it to stop frame flex, not frame breakage. A £300 trials specific frame shouldn't brake just cos it hasn't got a booster. Thats f**king rediculous and you know it. If you're using a really powerful rim brake like the Magura that will flex the frame, then it's up to you to use the booster, isn't it? If you repeatedly flex alu, due to the fact the damage is cumulative, it WILL crack. Therefore, if you ride it, it will crack, won't it? They don't exactly overbuild to f**k to prevent that, so maybe you should harangue them and get them to put in girder stays and shit too? The frame isn't a new one, so it's gotta be at least 6 months old, so therefore it will have been flexed a lot anyway. If you can see something flexing on your bike, you don't just leave it, otherwise this happens... Either way, you're buying the frame. Frame only means frame only, not "frame and bash" or anything. Therefore, the onus is on YOU to purchase a booster. They don't even specify you use rim brakes, do they? Plus what booster should they fit? There's no solution, so again, it's up to you. echo_olie123
Welding a piece of alu to the frame sounds a good idea i think i might just do that Thanks Olie :)
Mark W
unless you get the whole frame heat-treated, it'll crack fairly quickly again anyway. Plus, it'll be transfering the stress to some other part of the frame anyway, so it won't really solve the problem. Just having it welded and heat-treated would work as a temporary solution, but you should probably try and start saving for a new frame. And a booster.
