streetjibs
ok, i know everyones talkin bout 24s these days... but im curious... 400pounds for a 609 leeson OR 549pounds for the 24inch by Curtis. I know most people have the Leeson and iv seen on the sites that its definately the more custom bike of the two ... What im interested to know is... Which bike rides nicer? (yes i know custom bikes wil ride differently but in general..) Which would be the stronger? And any chance Curtis is just waaaay overpriced?? :D thanks for any advice. Swaying towards leeson.... but the Curtis in raw, does have some chronic sex appeal!!! thx!
CurtisRider
id say leeson for sure as much as i like my curtis, its just seems far to overpriced and from what ive heard they are far heavier than leesons with little, if any, strength gain.... one thing that sets to two companys apart majorly is the customer service, gary from curtis is very rude, and from what ive heard clive from leeson is quite opposite
The Dude
go for a leeson, clive is a class bloke, and will build you a perfect bike, for a very good price. curtis are also absaluely beautiful bikes, but they ride alot heavier, alot harder to get hold of, and more expensive. it just depends how much you want the "real british" in your frame. Leeson's aren't as light as you think :P Jon
narrowbars
Having had both the curtis 24'' and now a 609 I would say go for the leeson. Curtis=3 month wait to build Leeson+2 weeks to build Curtis weighs nearly 6lbs Leeson weighs around 4.5lbs Curtis customer service is ok but not great Leesons customer service is the best out of the whole of the uk bike industry. The leeson rides quicker and stays on the backwheel better than the curtis. Curtis is £550.00 and well over priced realy Leeson is £400.00 The curtis Is a little stronger than the leeson. I would buy another 10 leesons before I brought another Curtis
ghosts_cloak
Leesons customer service is the best out of the whole of the uk bike industry. :P I agree, the Leesons are really awesome people to deal with because Leeson bikes is more of a hobby than a money making venture. Mr Leeson does it for enjoyment, which is obvious when you talk to him. I had a slightly different experience with the waiting time than Narrowbars - it can vary tremendously! I had to wait about 2 months and Im pretty sure Tomm said he had to wait a long time also. Well worth it though in my opinion :- ~Gaz
streetjibs
THANKS for the help guys... il definately go with the Leeson then :- one more question.. and i know i should probly just ask Clive, but il ask here and see what response i get - Ive got the bolt through king rear hub.. does anyone know if he can do the 360 dropouts to suit it??? Id imagine the bolts on the frame would just bolt in where the funbolts do.. ?? has anyone had one built for the bolt through king hub?? Thanks again :P danny
quick_spider
Clive is very funny about Fun Bolts. I talked to him for ages about getting mine to fit, but to be honest I don't think he was interested. You'll probably need to run the QR inserts in the HD axle and use a standard skewer. Steve-A
I don't think there's a lot between them weight-wise. Leeson's aren't as light as you think :P Jon I weighed my Leeson both at clives and at home. The wieght of frame, subtracting the weight of BB is 4lbs 10oz, which isn't rediculously heavy. I was given the impression the curtis was over 5lbs, and Gary is happy to overbuild for strength pushing the weight up further. Back on topic, I'd go for the Leeson. If they are both going to take a while to be made, and going to be semi custom, then why not go for the cheaper and more customised option. I love my 609, its an awesome frame. Admittedly I have crackedand broken the seatstay on mine, after 9 months of abuse, but its still an awesome frame. I phoned Clive to tell him I've broken seatstay and if I get the frame to him he will replace the stay, add a small gusset and check alignment of whole frame and send it back to me for free. Jon On mine he took my existing fun bolts and drilled them out so they were essentially the same as QR inserts, then just used the usual bolt-through system. Saved me having to buy the QR inserts, anyway :)
