trialsguru
right i know this might have been asked before but i need a straight/simple answer! i love maxxis tyres but having used the super tacky high roller for about 2yrs solid i must have spent well over £100 on them! i ride pretty much everyday and the super takcys are just wearing out too quick so im thinking about getting the 60a compound. is there much difference in grip? i ride street and natural and dry or wet. will this tyre be ok? cheers! Luke Drewery
I rode with a standard 60a minion on the back, and the grip was still impressive. Much better than any other tyre and it lasted me a fair while too. (Y)
sexymike
I rode with a standard 60a minion on the back, and the grip was still impressive. (Y) i used to run 42a's on both and i recently just changed to a pair of 60's the grip is still preety good but i wont be buying this grade again, its obviously not as grippy as 42's. they doo last a long time though, by now on 42's (3weeks) my tyres would be showing reall signs of wear, not on 60's though they are hardcore. if u get em cheap go for 42's, if u pay full 25 smackeroonies then probably best to go for 60's, unless u r wadded. Ali C
I dunno how you guys wear tyres out so quick (Y) I have slow reezay front and rear, had them for a good few months now and they are only really showing wear now
rich4130
Yea, mine wore out in like a month (Y) Shame they dont do like a 50 compound, and in 24inchhh
Mr Motivator
Hmm, do you think that having a harder compond will increse the risk of pinch punctures? If the material is harder it wont sponge round the rim walls/tube/rock as softly as the super tackys?
trialsguru
hmm still pretty unsure , has anyone tried the sycros bht tyres? 50a compound might be a good in between if the sidewalls are good?take a look
trialsguru
can anyone else help?
hardcore_raver
at the moment i am riding on an almost bald high roller 40a dual ply and that tyre was brilliant, i never had one pinch using that tyre and they are very resilliant to thorns etc. i need to buy a new tyre(s) soon but i had about 8 months out of that tyre (i dont do skids) and i ride on the roads quite a lot with it but due to the tyre being so soft in compound it creates unwanted friction which slows you down. maybe ill buy a 60a and see what their like. Mark W
You stock riders are lucky you've got the choice! My Creepy Crawlers take about a month to a month and a half to run out. Sucks :D Love the grip, but not the wear-rate, and there's no real option to change to. My Try-All on the front has lasted since the Bike Show, to give you some comparison... danny B
Its best to just bite the bullet because unfortunatly you may be running through tyres like they are going out of fashion, but personally if you are doing that much ridin you dnt want to change your compound because after all it will effect your grip and that may taint the level of your riding i personally wudn't change. hope that may help. That does suck though, maybe maxxis will soon be doing different compounds. The creepy crawlers are still fairly new, so give it a while and we could find maxxis mod tyres with different compounds and treads. :P
SQuiT-man
When you say worn out, do u mean properly balding? My creepy crawlers have lost their origional all-powerful grip, but still fine, after loooooaaaads of riding, e.g. 8 months or something I'd guess. Im pretty sure 90% of my wear has been down to me doing constant spins anyway (which they are not suited to!).
N.Wood
My 60a is fine, i've been running it since about 3 months before the Bikeshow, theres still another 2 months of wear on it, but i've just got bored of it :- My next tyre's gonna be a Michelin, the compound is somewhere inbetween a 42 and a 60a. Regarding punctures, i've never had a pinch when running this tyre, i had one when running a Super Tacky. You can tell the difference in grip, but when it's on dry concrete (which i ride most often) it doesn't matter. Also, Martyn Ashton uses the 60a compound :P
shovel
i just put a new super tacky highroller on the rear the other day as the old one was completely slick after 3 months use, to be honest i'm not really bothered about doing this as i've been really impressed with the tyre, no punctures and unbelievable grip i think you should go with what you know performs well, you might not be impressed with the maxxpro compound if you buy one and end up wasting more money
Nick Garland
I cant notice the difference in grip between my high roller 60a and the minion 42a to be honest.
