dozza
As i am looking at getting the chris king hub (which has 72 points of engagement) i was just wondering how much of an effect it will have on the way the bike reacts... Currently i have a terrible cannondale fire disc hub which has under 20 engagement points, and the guy that is helping me get the new hub from USA swears by them and says it is amazing to ride and makes a huge difference... BUT what difference does it actually make though, specifically - will it make my gaps bigger/easier etc or does it simply make more possible? cheers
Simpson
say a clock goes 1 -12 if you have 12 engagments you have to go from 1o'clock to 2o'clock before your bike will move forward so you have to kick a lot further and a lot harder to get a half reaction, if you have 72 engagments in 1 kick you may move between 6 engaments instead of 1 so, it makes it easiler, and will help you to gap further and make your life easier
N.Wood
I found mine made me ride smoother, 'cos you're not doing half a revolution waiting for the hub to kick in. It's hard to tell whether your gaps will improve, i can gap further now than i could with my Hope, but then i've had a years more practise.. If you can afford it then go for it. There's gonna be people saying get a Profile/Hope but whatever, your money.
random
Get the hub and clean it out. Build it up and ride. Your ridding will improve asap. You'll feel more confident as you know you'll have the drive there and then, you'll feel it too as well as hear it. Honestly i can ride my king then a mate Hope ad i ride poor on a hope but king i just go big. I just cracked my hd axle mind and it's only a few weeks old and it's got a fully length crack now. Danno
Getting a Chris King hub will not suddenly make u gap furthur, they will just make your control better due to your bike feeling more responsive, which may help to gap bigger and make your riding more consistant but the diference won´t be a great deal. But they are a very good hub and worth while getting IF you have the money to do so (Y) Cheers, Dan. random
When i said your rididng will improve asap, what i emnt was you won't be worrying about ah i got have pedal in x postion to do this where as witha king where ever you are you'll have engament and power..least i do! So from that you have to do less farting around and just put the effort into rididng.
