Luke_bradley
i have decided to build my wheel instead of having it built at a shop. I have been lookin at how to build wheels on the internet and they talk about different patterns such as crows foot, 2 cross crows foot and more.i have a hope xc rear hub and a echo rim, what shall i do? Lawnmowerman
Take your time! Start with your first spoke 4 holes to the right of the valve hole and follow from there. Then go the otherway making sure that when you cross them your valve isnt going to be in the middle of a triangle(proper b*****d to pump your tyres up) Then lace the rest up. Thread each nipple onto the spoke so that there are about 3 threads visible then start from the valve again and tighten each spoke 1 turn, then go round again and again and again etc until you get a good tension, then true if needed and dish it in your frame :) Get someone else to do it hehehe
quick_spider
Crows foot isn't a good pattern to start with. Try 3x for your first build and go from there. 3 leading/3 trailing is probably a good one to attempt after that. Look on sheldon browns wheel building page for more info/links. AdamR28
i have a hope xc rear hub and a echo rim, what shall i do? 3 cross both sides. Rear trials wheels arent the place for experimenting with lacing patterns!
Steve-A
3 leading/3 trailing is probably a good one to attempt after that. Just to say 3 leading 3 trailing only works on 36 spoke wheels. If you've got a 32 spoke wheel you have to do 2 leading 2 trailing, as I found out when I tried to build 3 lead 3 trail once :)
