biker_dude
Hey Everybody. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to go to a bike shop or not to get my bike fixed. I have to get my hub bearings, front brakes, and the bolt on my crank fixed. The crank I can deal with but the hub bearings and the brakes i dont want to mess up. Thanks for the info Brad Miller
CurtisRider
havent you just answered your own question there? if you cant deal with doing the brakes and bearings yourself, then get a shop/friend to do them-kinda obvious really matey try and learn yaself, its worth it in the end (Y)
ModRider!
Or you could always find a local garage, they always fix my bikes for me or find a friend or do as Paul said and try learning yourself.
djb
I'd say it really depends what you mean by need fixing. If you want to remove the axle, clean all the bearings and rebuild unless you've got an uber fancy hub you can't really do anything wrong - when you take it apart line up all the parts in the order they came out, then reassemble in reverse, it's quite simple really. If its only the cones need tightening because the wheel moves from side to side on the hub then you really shouldn't be asking - a chimpanzee could do that. Again with the front brake it depends what you've got - if it's a V then I can't really think what can be fixed, changing pads and cables is childs play and things like broken springs can't be fixed on most models. If you've got a Magura then I have no idea since I hate the things but I wouldn't think it can be that difficult. Tell us what you've got and i'm sure we'll be able to tell you how to fix it. tomturd
As has been said already, have a go at fixing it all yourself. Its all pretty easy, and if you learn now you wont have to keep going back to the bike shop every time it needs to be fixed..

steve sturt
Learn to do the repairs yourself. Then you dont have all this nonsense with having to book it in, and a minimum labour charge. Save yourself a shedload of money in the longrun. Buy/ borrow the tools when needed. Bikes arent complicated. They are not cars. This is an assumption too many people make. Trials bikes are particularly simple, with no suspension, front mechs or seat posts. You dont even have to pump the tyres up properly. Thers not much you can balls up on a bicycle in terms of repair.
