poopipe
Ive got a louise FR on the front of my bike, it's not very old a month or two at most If i pull the brake on enough to slow me down but not enough to do a stoppie it makes a nasty noise - like the the little holes in the rotor are pinging over something. the brake still works, the rotor doesnt rub, it doesnt look bent, the pads are still in the caliper (well, the cotter pin's still there) and I can't possibly have worn them out yet so I cant figure out why its making the stupid noise. I know nothing about discs so i haven't fiddled with it yet. any ideas?
PaRtZ
Although I suggest you speak to Will Arnold hes had plenty of experiance with his louise, Could it be the type of pads? as in they're soft enough to be pushed into the holes? Just a thought, I've never had a louise lol
andyroo
The caliper isnt catching on the spokes is it? The force when braking might push the caliper over enough to give the spokes a ping as you pull the brake. Just a thought, as my Avid mechanical did that. poopipe
it goes away if i pull the brake harder so its probably not catching the spokes. could it be the pads bouncing off the disk because they're wonky or something? ScotchDave
Take the pads out, see if theres anything on them, check if your brake mounts need faced, realign disc. The usual tricks.
Will Arnold
Thanks for my reccomendation :)" ;) the fork mounts probarbly havent been faced, meaning the front/ back of the pad(edges) are getting slightly caught up in the rotor, its nowt to worry about and it should just go away asd the pads wear. if you dont want this, and want a better brake in the long run then face the fork mounts and set it up again :P ta Will
poopipe
Theyre the standard forks off a t-mag, I wouldn't imagine they're engineered with surgical precision so that sounds highly plausible, which is good news - means i can ignore it. Is facing getting the disk mount flattened properly by a nice man with the right kind of angle grinder?

CurtisRider
stanley knifes cut metal now do they? im pretty sure facing isnt just removing just the paint, it requires some of the metal to be taken off to create a flat surafce to mount upon :)
loffa
Yes, but even removing the paint/lacuqer may help, because sometimes the paint isn't even on the disk mount

ScotchDave
Go to your LBS, they'll have some sort of facing tool, take it in with the brake off the bike and ask if they can face it quickly if you set up the facer, they might do it free, they might charge you a 5er. poopipe
That sounds easy enough. i scared an old lady nearly to death with the noise on the way to work this morning so i reckon i ought to get it seen to. ta (Y)
