dave33
my tip would be to get the best tools you can afford no point in getting shity cheap spanners and allen keys as youll just round off bolts. your first buy should be a prk tools multitool both the aws10 and aws11 ane amazing lil tools and both under a tenner :( buy a 15mm spanner and again a decent spoke key eg park. that should keep you going for the time being :ermm:
Janson
I hate multi-purpose things with a passion. Combining a handful of crap short allen keys with some half-decent cone spanners, chucking in a spoke key, bottle opener and flat screwdriver, and trying to fit everything in a tool the size of a small cellphone just doesn't cut it in my books. Allen keys: 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 Spanners: 8, 14, 15, 17, small and large adjustable ones Screwdrivers (flat, Philips and Pozidriv), Mole grips, mallet, BB tool, cassette tool, chain whip, spoke key (park), puncture kit with good tyre levers, gaffer tape, threadlock (loctite) superglue and a block of wood is alll I ever use for working on either of my bikes. oh yeah, if you run maggies/hydraulic discs, a suitable bleed kit and a bit of fluid isn't bad to have. buy expensive tools, it is worth it. Bring a bag on longer rides.. You might think you would like to go bagless because of the freedom and only carry a little multitool, but if you have a bag you don't need to have keys, phone, wallet etc in your pockets. and you can bring stuff like extra clothes, tubes, all the tools you wanna, maybe camera, DRINKS, maybe some choccy or other stuff to eat, and other friends' stuff of course... streetjibs
Yeah i definately agree with Janson! them multi tools are not worth the benefit of fitting in your pocket. A bag is the way :( just like a back pack.. for drinks tools etc and then u can just take it off when riding at your desired location. Knowing that youll have tools, food, drinks, deodorant! :ermm:" ooo weeee! etc. As for tools - Park Tools are the go as youll see in any top lbs. Just consider the parts of your bike your most likely to have to adjust/fix/temper with and then from that you should be able to work out what tools are most useful/urgent. A good set of allen keys A pump obviously and patches 15mm spanner should get you off to a good start :)

munkee
I have a bag with everything you can imagine in there as spare parts go ranging from mech hangers to magura seals and whole fully working brakes (hose, lever and pads ready to go). Basically i have a spare for pretty much everything, but you only usually pick these up over time and after building up different frames. The main tools: Adjustable spanner ( god send ) Imperial and metric allen keys Multi tool Puncture repair kit All of the "decent" parts out of one of the onza tool kits from supercycles. When i say decent.. the non cheese bits in there like chain whip, bb tool, cassette tool. Everything but their allen keys and chain tool pretty much. Just get all the tools that are needed to build up a bike from scratch.
