biker_dude
I'm trying to decide to buy gloves of not. I can't think of many reasons to or not to buy gloves. I just want to know why you wear gloves or not. Also What's the best type of knee/ shin armour? or if you wear it or not and why? I'm just starting trials and i know I'm going to hit my shins some time..lol (Y) Thanks for the advice  Brad M. shovel
some people wear gloves some don't, if you buy a decent set of soft rubber/foam grips then they won't hurt your hands but gloves are sometimes pretty good if your on a really long ride to stop your hands getting knackered, so up to you really most people only go for shin guards as any sort of knee armour could restrict the movement in your legs, fox and lizard skin both make very good neroprene material shin guards which are comfy and don't more about your leg too much, or as a cheaper alternative maybe just a set of football shinguards
poopipe
you need shinpads no you really need shinpads - i like ones that are closed at the back cos you get smaller gashes in your calf muscles - they do get hot though gloves - personally I wear them, you lose a bit of feel of the bike but your hands hurt less . Ive got hardass motocross gloves so my fingers dont get crushed but they're probably not the best trials gloves you can get - Ive heard 661 gloves are pretty good but don't quote me dont forget to get a lid. You can't ride trials if you can't move your legs
rathergoodpie
i've allways worn gloves; the main reason being that my hands sweat like fook and then slip off the bars (which is bad). I tried going with no gloves and foam grips but that was no use as i didn't like the way they moved around (not slipping on the bar, just generally being too squidgy). Drawbacks with gloves... mine STINK after about 6 or 7 rides, so they are always in the wash. Also, they obviously have to be replaced when they wear out which costs. If i could not wear gloves, then i wouldn't.
Ali C
I wear gloves for the same reason as above, although the smell doesnt bother me, I have never washed a set of gloves (Y) I dont wear shinpads, but sometimes I wish I did, like last week where I put a big gash in my knee  edit: heres a pic, its healed up loads now, it was a really deap cut! deagledaddy
I don't wear gloves as I don't like the loss of feel you get when you add a layer of fabric between your hands and the bike, plus if they are not really tight fitting I think they allow some movement too. Personaly I would use richey foam grips or perhaps Yeti Hardcore grips for comfort. Obviously in the winter months the hands get a little chilly so there is a need for gloves then I guess. shinpads are a very good idea, but your legs will get sweaty
JT!
Helmet is a must. I only wear gloves in winter, due to cold hands. I don't wear them anyother time becuase i feel you get less grip, and they don't feel as good. I don't wear any other protection (like shin pads etc) becuase i'm not one of these people who shins themselfs. Also if you twat a pedal against your shin, it's going to hurt, but it isn't going to be leathal, like if you hit your head. Edited September 14, 2005 by JT! Da Make
Riding gloveless gives better feel but at the beging hands wear fast and are sore. I ride gloveless everytime I can but now in autumn wheater gets so damn cold that I have to use gloves. It is more personal preference. CLS and many advanced riders ride without gloves and they can't be wrong.
