Sanding A Rim With Sand Paper Or Any Alternatives

I don't want to grind my rim and i was wondering if it is possible to sand the rim and get results or to do anything else to improve braking.

Sand paper will take days and wont be worth the effort (Y)

Sanding does not work at all the only other alternative i can think of is tar :- .

grind it, i used to use a hacksaw and go round the rim cutting it like a grinder but obviously not as severe but then i used a grinder the other week and the results are soo much better

I didnt want to grind, so I used tar, then a clean rim, finally I decided to grind, and I've never looked back.

All the pro's do it

All the amateurs do it

All of us do it

If you dont do it then your missing out.

Just be warned pad wear does increase and so does braking power.

if u have time on your hands try this. Get a brand new stanley knife blade in a and then start to cut vertical lins in the rim. I find it last around a year is better than a grind and isn't to harsh on the pads. I love it but try what u think is best.

Grind it, grind it now. Its the onel way. Tar is non prous so water just sits on it, crap in the wet. With a grind, the water sits in the grooves so doesnt rob the bite of your brake so much. It doesnt compromise your rim strength, as long as your sensible and dont grind it every week. Use mavic rims and these last ages with grinds. They arent made of marmite like these buy all products are.

Discs work great in the wet... I have one on the front and just a xtr brake on the back, but I don't get the back end wet ;) :) :)

I sand papered my rim once or twice. Depends what kind of sand paper you use. I got the roughest kind. The only good that comes out of it, is that if you're applying tar, tar goes on easier, and not as messy if u were to apply it onto a grind.

Agreed though. Grinds are where it's at.
