T-Unit Tim
Hello all. I signed up to this forum a while back, as I was planning on starting trials on my 24Seven V24, well I didn't, and about a month back, I bought a DMR Transition frame, last week I purchased some suspension forks for it after riding for months with rigids, I also put a front brake on for the first time in a year. So.. after a couple of days riding like this, I decided that trials was what I wanted to do. Ive just put some longer bars on the DMR (26" kona DH, to replace 23" EA50s), and had a 20 minute ride in my driveway, and it felt really nice to ride. Now I'm just after a bit of advice of what other parts I should change to make it more trials specific. It's not going to be pure trials, but a lot of trials influence in my riding I think, I will still be riding street, flatbanks & things, just want a nicer feel to the bike. I'm planning on getting a smaller sprocket on the front - 25t & running with my 14t sprocket on the back. Also debating going back to rigids (DMR Trailblades), but any other help & opinions would be great, thanks all. zoojames
I think a longer reach stem would do you some good, around 90mm if you want a bridge, and as your sorting out the gearing it should be ok. What hub are you running on the rear and on what rims? This will make a fair bit of difference as you want a light feeling rear end for ups etc. The transition frame may have some back wheel issues? As its not trials specific geometry I can only imagine that control will be an issue so maybe a more trials specific frame would also be an idea, look at Leesons and Curtis' for info! Hope that helps a bit, James :-

Hope that helps a bit, James :- ← Back wheel is an Atomlab GI Dirt (pretty damn heavy), front wheel is an Atomlab Aircorp, (pretty light in comparison). So it's atomlab hubs all-round. Well, I would love to go for a trials frame, but as I bought the DMR only a month ago, and I wont be able to sell it for much, I may aswell keep it for a bit longer, I'll think about those frames though mate, but not for a while. (Wanted the Curtis a while back, but quite pricey) Edited September 11, 2005 by T-Unit Tim
Dr. Nick Riviera
try fitting a rear magura to prevent the tears when the disc tabs snap :- and as james said , a longer stem will help loads
T-Unit Tim
Yeah, I was going to ask.. Why do nearly all trials rider use rear rim brakes? Ive run a V-Brake for most of the year, and it was pretty good, but put a Mini back on in the week, and it is so much nicer, just a lot more feeling on stalls & things, and you don't have to worry about trueing wheels. The Dude
id say buy an ashton ET replica, and whack all the parts on, that would feel awesome with a very hoppy feel, but still able to flow round parks/dirt like a beast. and get a rear magura on, or a decent V, discs are perfect for the front, but just put too much strain on the back. and a smaller chainring + bashring should be a beast then. T-Unit Tim
Update... I've put rigids on the bike now, and a standard Mini rather than Mono, so now I have a really good front brake, bike is feeling really nice, longer stem next. I have a 60mm Kona Clump stem, I guess this would do to be getting along with, untill I can afford something good, like a Hope maybe. This is going to turn out good hopefully, and when I get more money, I will be able to afford new wheels, a Ti axle for cranks & maybe a frame.
