mod_rider
I know a lot of people on here drive who are 17, and so far insurance seems to be crazy, and you must have got round it somehow. Are there any courses out there I can do that will lower my insurance? Also what company gives the lowest insurance rates for new drivers? Any other information that helped you would be much appreciated. Thanks
trials_pimp
theres loads you can do to drop insurence. Live in a Low risk area Have a low risk car Fit a Cat 1 alarm Fit a tracker Do not modify the car Have the car garaged every night Courses: Pass Plus Advanced drivers couse There are also other cousrse to do with car control that might help. If you want it lower, and dont mind not building up No-claims bonus, have the car insured in you parents name, and you as a named driver

Tony Harrison
Thing is, if you're 17 it'll probably cost as much to do the courses/car modifications as you would save from the premium. But then I suppose things like that are worth doing because they'll pay off in the long run. But yeah, we all get shafted for insurance. I know so many new drivers who wrote off cars within weeks of passing their tests. It just drives the premiums up...
JTM
Put your mum as a 2nd driver
mod_rider
Cheers for advice. Does anyone who has insurance reccomend a certain company that's cheap for us? I intend to get 3rd party fire and theft, as the car isn't going to be worth that much. Cheers
that NBR dude
I found Norwhich Union Direct to be one of the cheapest for younger drivers. Your best bet, is to buy a copy of Auto trader, and call around the really small ads in the back. These places tend to have lower premiums. The reason being is the bigger companies such as Direct Line, More Than ect are all government run, and know that young drivers will pay as much as they need to to get insured. Smaller companies arent run by the government so can afford to offer lower premiums to get more business. It might be a long shot, but worth a try. Also, try to avoid ones that offer "insurance for the younger driver" as these tend to have again higher premiums. Hyperformance are one of the worst and they say they specialise in insurance for 17-21yr olds.
The enchanted broomstick
i went with Swinton for my renault megane coupe its a 1.6 so most insurance companies wanted to slaughter me for it because its my first car but with swinton they asked if i had taken my pass plus course, i said no and they asked me if i was planning on taking it, and i was, so i said yes. In that case we can lower your insurance premium by £500 if you take your pass plus course within the next 60 days they replied. So hell yeah i thought and took out the policy, £75,000 worth of legal protection, courtesy car and third party fire and theft cover. Not bad for £1380 - why i thought this was good is because it gives you some time to get used to you car, get on the road quickly and save enough money over the course of 60 days to take the pass plus course. Dont go by exactly what an online quote says if you phone them you have someone you can haggle the price with and computer quotes normally miss out some minor detail which can change a lot on your premium. stu :P
sfboy
The reason being is the bigger companies such as Direct Line, More Than ect are all government run ← What the hell are you talking about? Direct line is operated by the Royal Bank of Scotland More than is operated by Royal and Sun Alliance.
fairy elephants
I found when i was learning that Tesco was cheapest, all the supermarkets offer insurance, and normally at reasonable rates. But once I had done my test, Norwich Union beat the others by far <_< EDIT: I am planning on getting a kit car next year, and I am having trouble finding insurance companies which A: will insure kit cars, and B: insure me to drive a kit car. If anyone has done anything similar then who insured you? P.S, sorry for hi-jacking your topic " Edited September 12, 2005 by fairy elephants

I had the exact same problem when my dad looked into insuring me on one of his Nova's, and they all just didn't want to insure me. When my dad comes back i will ask him for some insurers, as i've not a clue, but you will be needing a specialist
