STEVE-0
So...i've been looking on the search for flippin' ages and still have uncertancies and all those reviews are probably old now (sep, 2004 :( ) OK, so i want a 2.35 tyre, mainly for street...maybe a bit of natural, fairly light, pretty puncher resistant cause i get them all the time, and about £25 overall. Here the options i've come up with: What the best tyre for the front? READ THREAD FIRST Continental vertical pro IRC koja Maxis high roller single ply Maxxis Minion single ply Panaracer fire XC 1 of these Kendas Other options... Another thing: Don't suggest the hot-s (Its old and get punchures :P ) Cheers Steve :) p.s. If you really Don't know or have only used 1 tyre please Don't bother replying. I want to get some reviews in, cheers again lads. Edited September 8, 2005 by STEVE-
ben_travis
well i have used continental, maxxis high roller and panaracer xc, i still feel the continental is the best tyre i have run for the front, however i run a 2.1 so weight is right down, i just run a fairly high pressure so no problems with punctures. im unsure of its capabilities on wet rocks, may have to take a widr tyre with me to fort william to cope with the stuff there......... high roller has good grip panaracer aint as good imo, just a bit on the weak side for punctures. each to their own me So...ive been looking on the search for flippin' ages and still have uncertaincies and all those reviews are probably old now (sep, 2004 :( ) OK, so i want a 2.35 tyre, fairly light, pretty punchure resistant cause i get them all the time, and about £25 overall. tom e
You'll be lucky to find a maxxis minion single ply in 42/40a I'd say go for a maxxis lopes bling in 2.35 42a
shovel
the high roller in supertacky would be a good coice, but if you wanted to keep the weight down a bit then the continental would be good although the high roller does probably have slightly better puncture resistance

STEVE-0
But i thought they were really soft and were mainly for natural! I even found the super tacky's wear rate on my minion a bit extreme! :ermm:
Burton
try all! best front tyre available ← Well said! Soo much spring, well grippy, just that they slow you down because theyre the same compound as Slow Reezey. Maxxis Mobster?
JIX
Steve is there really actually any question here?? EL GATO front and rear. Wont go wrong son. Steve you seen me ride, quite harsh sometimes and I hardly ever pinch them. And the grip is :ermm: EDIT: Sorry and only 860g Edited September 8, 2005 by JIX
mat hudson
try all! best front tyre available ← i was trying to eat onzaboymarks on the way back from the bikeshow 2005,, it looked so soft and tasty :ermm:
Phatmike
I've had my 2.35" Singleply high roller in 40a compound for over 5 months, brilliant tyre, amazing grip, and lasted very well. Although it did (does - still running it " ) start to pinch quite often towards the end of it's life. Although running talcum powder, sensible tyre pressure, or tubeless (reccomended :ermm: ), it is the perfect front tyre. Mike. :(
rich4130
you seen me ride, quite harsh sometimes and I hardly ever pinch them. And the grip is  ← I am amazed that I've only seen you pinch one once :( :ermm:
TomN
Am the moment am using a red Hot S 2.2 om the front and I find this tyre much better then a Panaracer XC which i had before since it has a better pinch resistance and grip is much better also light. JIX
If you go for a panaracer its got to be the trail blaster for sure. Light and very grippy. Steve when I had a short bike I had a skinnier front tyre than the rear. But now I have gone longer and your on a t-rex I think you need to have a fat front aswell because of the way you use your front wheel with the longer bike. STEVE-0
Isn't 2.35 big enough! I admit i wouldn't ever want a 2.1 or smaller because i really need as much grip as possible. What are you saying? Get a 2.5 el gato for the rear but put it on front? Im tempted for the minion tacky at the mo. Does anyone know if the high roller has any advantages over it? because thats all people are voting 4 at the moment. Is that just because most people have only heard of/ridden them? Endohopper
Not one of your stated choices , but my vote goes to Scwalbe's Space 2.35 ( as shown in Base link below . ) . Having tried some of the others stated above , I still massively prefer these , offering excellent grip , pinch protection , and at a resonable weight and wear rate too . If blue's not your thing , they're also avaible in black .
flower
el gatos are poo and they attract punchers get a 2.25 kujo up front and then get a 2.6 kujo for the rear. lovely jubbly

Only not using it cos I ride mod now.
bquamb
Maxxis rolers are the best in my opinion. strong, a little heavy but hard to get pinches and punctures. gl
Ashley Smith
I know a lot of people will disagree but i think the panaracer fire xc is a great tyre! having used one on the front in the kevlar version for a year i can honsetly say they are great, the weight is very low 420 grams (or round about) the tread clears mud well, the wear rate is minimal, mines only worn about 1/4 of tread. the grip is great in dry conditions the only downsides i can comment on, is that when wet they are as slippy as a wet kipper, also the pinch protection is not great! if i was to rate the tyre out of 10 i would rate it 7 there may be better tyres out there but this is my oppinion, eveyreyone likes different things the only other tyre i would perhaps consider on the front is a continental due to the weight being low, i personally think the weight of the maxxis tyres are too heavy for the front ash :P
