Olly C
Hey guys, Right at the moment I'm running my NTL 2mb Connection Via ethernet through a standard D-Link Router and recently I've been bought a few items that would benifit from having a wireless connection aswell/instead. So whats are my options? The Broadband cable is right next to my PC, I have an ethernet card on my PC, I used the internet for my PC and its also wired to my XBOX and PS2 which I dont think would work wirelessly. Im looking to use the XBOX 360, my PSP and my DS as they all will have WiFi and are able to do *things* online. So... What do I need? Whats Cheapest/Best? Where do you buy such items from? (links) Cheers Olly
Tomm
I think you can get a wireless bridge for the Xbox - so you can make it wireless if you really need to. But you may as well just wire it up via ethernet and put the Wi-router next to it.
Nick Garland
Buy a Wifi router and then two Wifi recivers, one buy xbox pc etc and get a splitter (ie 1 into 2) and then another reciever for Pc or buy a PCI reciever card. RicH_87
cool you getting 360 too  maybe i'll actually play you sometime :P I really wanna get wireless too cos i have cables running all over the house, but i have 4 pcs and 2 xboxs so it's gonna cost too much. I think you'll need to replace your current router with a wireless one, then just wack a wireless enabled network card (the ones with a little ariel) in each pc. As for the xbox, looks like you can just buy this:
biketrialler
Just get a wirless network router... It will normally have 8 ethernet ports, like a normal router, but also the wireless antenna. So that way, you can connect all wired devices as you do now, with no configuration change... and then connect the wireless devices up too :P They are about £40 as I understand. Im going to be doing something similar too, soon, to connect my 3 Pcs currently linked by a normal router, to add a wireless capability for my iBook so I can internet it from all around the house

RicH_87
HAHAHA seriously? Thats insane but very believeable, considering the harddrive (20gb remember) is expected to cost about $90 in the US. :P ok, well in that case, surley there are other USB wireless adaptors around that would work just as-well? If you get all this shit together, update the post cos i'm seriously tempted to go wireless. I can't be doing with constant disconnections though, and it really has to retain it's speed. Haz
No joke I'm afraid, £60, or a little wire? Certainly know which I am going for. :P
nb88
I got a wireless network thing for my xbox which works, made by linksys, cost me £20 and also works with PCs with loads of different channels. Got that off ebay so take a look there :P I'd recommend the linksys wireless G router WRT54G - ive got it and its awesome, great reception and speeds and its not badly priced at £40. The £40 linksys WiFi Router £50 linksys Wireless Router with "Speedbooster" Whats the main advantages of the £50 one? Would the speedbooster work with say the PSP or DS? Is that all I'd need? If I keep my PC connected via a ethernet cable and my PS2 and XBOX connected via the ethernet cables too (I guess it still has 4 ports then the Wifi port?) Then it would just automatically be able to connect to the PSP and stuff without further hullabaloo? Also if anyone else has a Wireless setup, post a link to what you have with a price and your experiences with that setup. Cheers Olly
Tomm
I think the "Speedbooster" thing basically allows more than one connection between your PC and the router. But it requires a compatible card in the computer. I.e. The PSP won't have that, so I would save the money and get the cheaper one :)
nb88
Dont bother with the speedbooster just get the top one, ive got it and it works brilliantly. 5/5 reception all the time :) . If you're also after a wireless network card for your pc, id recommend this one... http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...oduct_uid=50127 Oh yeah one more thing! If when you get it all set up you find the xbox cant detect the network, go into the router settings (http://192.168.1.1) and change the wireless output to 'Both G and B' instead of 'G only'. I had that problem and it took me all day to work out what it was :P Edited September 4, 2005 by Nozmeister

Cheers for the help so far :P Olly.

Apparently you can use Windows XP Home or Media Centre. No mention of XP Pro though, I assume that'll be fine too. And ethernet cable I'm also sure will be fine.
