ghosts_cloak
Hi guys! I have been busy riding on my new bike today (only had it since monday), but I notice that when I pull on the handlebars or occasionally just stopping or starting something makes a "crack" sound. Not very loud but definately there! Its coming from somewhere near the front of the bike I think - what are the main suspect areas to check? I guess headset, and making sure all the bolts are done up okay - any other suggestions? All the parts are new by the way and the headset is an FSA Pig Dh pro... Thanks :) ~Gaz
Tom Booth
Bars, stem, crown race, and qr. These are the main areas to check, not 100% sure thou, but it cant make anything worse by checking them anyway. Clean the clamp area on your stem and bars, might be grit and dirt inside them. cheers Tom
Waynio
put a smidge of grease on your bars. take bars out of stem and on the corners of stem just put a touch of grease. if it carries on it would be the forks, if they are bonded??? check the bonding if not then the Q/R like the chap above said :) :) a smidge of grease tends to cure creaks. ghosts_cloak
Thanks for the replies :) I will check all the parts mentioned and put the grease on the bars /stem. The forks are Pashleys by the way, I dont know whether they are bonded or not? How would I tell? ~Gaz

Endohopper
Congratulations on your new bike . I was once infuriated and mystified by a creak that occured seemingly randomly . Having stripped the whole font end , I realised it was a brake cable ferrule moving in the frame's cable stop . Check and grease any possible culprits .
