munkee
i think hes on about a freewheel thats all fixed in every direction.. so you pedal forward you go forward you pedal back you go back.. or just your bog standard old skool penny farthing (Y)
are-em
how would that work...you need to be able to freewheel (Y), what happens if you go down a hill (Y) Rob
Barbara Logan-Price
could be a drum brake maybe (Y)
Mr Motivator
I think he may mean a freewheel that when you start to pedal backwards, they lock up like a brake. They are illegal in the UK.
JT!
They are just like normal freewheels but when you pedal backwards they lock up. Aka braking. I don't think they'd be much good for trials for obvious reasons.
Littledevil0991
Surely they can't be illegal because unicycles have them? in the fact that u stop pedalling and u stop? or do u mean that you have to pedal backwards to stop? But still i'm curious as to why they would be illegal? Ben
Blackghostknife
You can freewheel forwards and your cranks dont spin, but if u apply pressure on the cranks to pedal packwards then they back wheel completely locks up... well thats what this bike i had when i was small had. (Y)"

Meaning if your going with a bit of speed you'll just skid.
Ben Cox
i think they are known as coaster brakes, i might invest in one lol

picki
alot of flat landers use them....
downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
I dont think that you would want one, cause then you wouldnt be able to pedal backwards in a comp if you have the wrong foot farward, to switch to your chocolatefoot
Olly C
alot of flat landers use them.... ← no flatlanders use freecoaster hubs, that you can roll backwards without moving the cranks, where as there on about the bike like old womans ones in france where you pedal backwards to brake and it locks the wheel = flatlanders death :ermm:
PaRtZ
I think he may mean a freewheel that when you start to pedal backwards, they lock up like a brake. They are illegal in the UK. ← they not illegal. I did work experiance at my LBS and I had to build one for a customer. The bike was actually called a "Townie" no joke :) He means the Freecoaster brakes. They were invented in america and then flatlanders realised it would be ace for flat land if they could fakie without having to pedal backwards, so they simply took the brake off and used them :ermm: Great idea but shit for trials Edited August 21, 2005 by PaRtZ
N.Wood
I hear they work awesome when your chain snaps going down a hill.

Freecoaster = no engagements when riding backwards :P wonder what happens if it snaps when you gap? :ermm: ← Same as when you snap a chain gapping with any hub, dullard :P

SQuiT-man
Same as when you snap a chain gapping with any hub, dullard (Y) ← Surely if you snap the chain while gapping with one of these it is much more dangerous, as you will land with no rear brake...? Seeing as you have to apply backwrds pressure on the drivechain for the brake system to work?
