Sponge
By the way you normally post, you think you know everything about everything... Now what you've done is a little silly... First of all, I'd boil the rotor and pads, and spray some cleaning alcohol onto it, and keep washing them... if that doesn't work... then get a new rotor and pads... You do realise that overheated pads don't work for peanuts? You didn't use fire on your pads too did you??!! :P I doubt attacking discs with fire is a good idea... Sponge
You thinking black pads work well with tar when it doesn't etc. Anyway who cares right now... onto your disc, what were you trying to do when you flamed your disc rotor? If it was contaminted and pads too.... it's easy to fix, I've even fixed a North Shore rider's front Disc brake by putting the rotor and pads in boiling water, which drives oil out, then spray loads of Muc-Off Disc Brake cleaner off and wipe it hard with a cloth... then boil again and wash again... repeated process 3 times with both pads and rotor and it was pretty damn nice afterwards. But then again, I've found rebleeding annoyingly hard for some reason, :P Edited August 17, 2005 by Sponge

Sponge
Black pads and Koolstops don't work with tar very well as I have found... But then again I'm using a Koxx rim, so not all pads work great on it...
Siders77
Ummm, i've used black pads and Cool Stops with tar and they've both been fine. I dunno what you're on about! :P
Davetrials
Righto well im cleaning again, but black pads with enough tar does work:S Anypads will thats not me going on like i know everything, ive tried and tested it? awful brake but it still works. Sponge
I have found that these pads don't work so well with tar, I am using a rear Koxx rim remember seeing as it's made of softer aluminium than most other rims.. Like JT, I've tried this, and with a small bit of tar, not much happens really, and then I'm forced to put on more tar, and then it gets really sticky and horrible... Why exactly does oil spill on disc brakes totally malfunction them, when it doesn't do it nearly as bad on rim brakes? Dr. Nick Riviera
to quote tarty you could use a chipolata with tar and it would work

downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
Just repeat what you did dave, but after putting back on the bike, do loads of stoppies, and then when the disk is VERY hot, pour cold water on it, then repeat about 10 times!! it wil get very boring doing it, but then the brake will be awsome!!! Well, should be awsome! :) Im going to have to do this when my disk wheel arrives and i think my pads MIGHT be contaminated :P
Davetrials
Wont that glaze me disc?
trials_star17
Clean pads and disc with 'disc brake cleaner' put it on drag brake in short bursts, so as to not glaze pads then repeats till no black rubbish comes off. Then a lil bit of water poured onto the disc and ride along pulling the brake sharply then letting go then pulling sharply, Don't drag the brake down a hill or whatever because that WILL glaze the pads over. If this doesn't work then I can't think what will, thats my two penneth anyways. Good luck Carlos
tom e
You thinking black pads work well with tar when it doesn't etc. ← They will work. A well set up brake, with black pads + tar will deffinately work for any rider. And koolstops with just a nice grind will work, very well! And the issue with koxx rims and brakes is that the material is very soft, so it doesn't hold grinds as long as rims such as dx32's and d521's. Nothing to do with tar really. N.Wood
to quote JTM you could use a chipolata with tar and it would work ← :) Try riding with the disk for a bit? Keep pouring water on it and doing a few stoppies/normal trials and see what happens. Waynio
just put water on the disc and pads...........this will make the pads moist and should start working again if not change the pads dave. Waynio............... i had the same problem i took my pads out and dropped them in a tub of brake fluid so i burnt the oil out of the pads then put them back in and it sqeeled like hell so i wacked water on them and it sorted it out :( :)
