Chicky
As of recent i've been getting this horrible clicking when i hold my cranks in position on my front freewheel. it got really bad last night and i had to push my bike home incase i did some proper damage. I'm not sure what it is, wether the freewheels f**ked or it needs greasing or whatever. But i would apreciate some tips. I ride an Onza T-pro04 (same as factory build). where can i get a replacment freewheel? do i really need a replacement, can i just take apart and grease? If so, how hard exactly is it to take apart the freewheel and regrease it? cheers,

Sponge
I'm assuming you use the ACS Claws freewheel, or are the 2004 standard ones Dictas? Anyway, this is a common problem people face, and if it's what I think it is, it's easily solved, just get a screwdriver and place the head of it into a circular hole on the freewheel on lockring. Then get a hammer and hit the screwdriver ANTICLOCKWISE to tighten the freewheel lockring, then there should be no more annoying clicking... But basically, what you have to do to get rid of it totally, is loctite the lockring threads, meaning you need to take the crankarm off and take the freewheel apart VERY CAREFULLY... I'm sure there's an essay Onzaboymark wrote on 'How to service your ACS front freewheel'...

Chicky
The freewheel is dicta, well that's what it's got printed on it. Im not really sure what part you mean to put the screwdriver in? Could you draw a quick diagram to show me? cheers,

Danny
get a screwdriver in there O_o Okay :) ← Use the corner of a flat bladed screwdriver and give it a hammer :P You mite want to open her up first and check everythings ok inside. Watch you dont loose bearings everywhere though.
Mark W
In the year and a half I used a Dicta on the front (that's right, over a year and a half out of one Dicta. Still going now on someone else's bike :P), it never once came loose. Just seems to be an ACS problem? Anyhoo - take the cranks off and grease the tapers. It could just be that they're a tiddly bit loose, so when you apply pressure it goes "crrrrrrrrrrk", as it were :) Fire some GT-85 into the freewheel through the little gap near the driveshell too. Chicky
how do i get the cranks off? Is it just a matter of brute force? i didnt want to break anything ...
Mark W
Crank extractor. Mine didn't even come off after a beating, so you're *way* better off using a crank extractor. Plus, twatting your cranks rapes your cranks and BB, so it's not really worth it...
Chicky
martin from the local bike shops taking a look at it tommorow, guna take the whole cranks/freewheel apart and grease it all. Should do the trick.
Sponge
Yeah that should work I think... I find that unsealed ball bearing freewheels are a nightmare to service though :P . Edited August 17, 2005 by Sponge
