Quick Question About Disc Brakes..

I had a hope mono M4 on the front, which was good, but too many problems with bleeding and stuff which I've heard never really got ironed out in the Trial version. But now I'm on an avid mechanical with an XTR lever and 203 rotor. Much more powerful than the hope, as much modulation if a little less, and its cheaper and no hydraulics to worry about. Kind of biased I know but the avids just work and they work well and a lot of people have proved this; albeit with broken disc mounts or brake brackets which have been ripped off by the braking forces; basically if this brake was a person it'd be a psychotic masochistic sociopath :-

Hope trial is very good, I have one. I would say the avid probally has more bite.

The lock on the trial is very good.

I had to bleed my one the other week because i ripped off part of the hosing.

It was the easiest thing to do. I wish maguras were as easy to bleed as the hope.

I recommend you get the avid, i run one with an xtr lever and have done so for about 6 months now and it works amazing, good bite, lock and modulation. The best thing to do is bed them in with cold water and high speed sharp braking as this ensures best performance. I havent had one problem with mine (touchwood), they are fairly low maintenance. I have had a go on my mates hope disc and i prefer my avid, i think its because his brake wasnt set up properly though, so not really justified. :P

They are both the shiznit, The avid tends to be more I want to bite NOW so whether you want to or not you're stopping. Where as the hopes like, I'm calm I'll slow you down but if you want me to I'll stop dead.

Overall the avid tends to be an aggressive biter

and the Hopes laid back but works if you want it to.

I know that I haven't helped in the slightest, but hey.

By the way I prefer the hope, I'm running old mini at the mo, doesn't bite well but for some reason I can make it work, even though no-one else can.

hehe, i know the avid is a beast, but if the trial is more of a beast..... :)

and im thinking rear brake here anyways  :P"

Either an avid 205, or a marta/louise with new monty disc pads.

save yourself the hassle and get an avid my hope does my head in there awful!

the brake works real well WHEN it works. mine has gone shitty twice now in a month or so.

avids are always super powerful and reliable just get an aztec rototr for it so it gets rid of all the glaze and it would be even better :P

Neither..

Avid Juicy Seven. Did you read my review?

All the power/lock/bite of a BB7 but the power DOES NOT fade when you hold it on for over 5 secs like the BB7, even though they have the same pads!

I am thoroughly chuffed with mine and would NEVER recomend anything else.

After a year my avid BB7 just suddenly exploded without touching it :(

At £130 from CRC you wont find anything better for trials! If it doesn't work for you I will give you my address and you can come round my house and kick me in the nuts!!
