Stanners
ive resently destroyed another set of onza crank arms and i was thinkin bout gettin the new echo crank arms in isis but they are in 170mm in stead of the length im used to which is 175mm. I ride 26" and wonderin if it makes a difference with backhoppin etc. cheers :)
Janson
doesn't make a huge difference but you'll feel it on stuff like pedal ups.
Stanners
but you can still do everything with 170mm that u can with 175mm?? :)
JT!
but you can still do everything with 170mm that u can with 175mm?? :) ← There's not going to be any hudge difference. Hell it could even improove you. It's like saying does a higher bb make you better. It will at some things and wont at others. Edited August 14, 2005 by JT! Chris Cook
I went from having some fsa power pros 175mm to middleburns 165mm. I have inproved loads with balancing when i get up walls and gaping etc. Get some middleburns :)
Sponge
Well, JT's got it really... of course with longer cranks you're going to get more leverage for pedal kicking etc. But there's obviously less ground clearance. But if you are a stronger more powerful rider, I think longer cranks with a slightly higher gear ratio or something will be good... seeing as longer cranks make gears easier to pedal on. shovel
as everyone else has said, the length difference will only have an effect on pedal hops etc, but if your used to 175mm cranks you should maybe just stick with that size and maybe try middleburns, they're very strong and stiff cranks used by loads of trials riders and also middleburn will warranty cranks used for trials so if you are going through cranks alot then . . . . .
