Waynio
Why???? the brakes/part of bike is designed for it why use something different????? i has been designed and tested with that in personally i would leave it in unless you want your brake to let you down...........people who use water may get a nice return at the lever but its crap and no where near locks as well as mineral oil. its as if it is always compressing more and more as its thinner. only my opinion though. Waynio........................

Chris Cook
I use water. I think it works perfectly not spungy and comes back perfect. I think that it is achually better than the oil becuase it is not as spungy and compresses better for some reason... As long as my brake works good thats all theat matters. :)"

Waynio........................ ← I disagree, ther eis no way magura oil will work in a goodridge hose on a maggie, only water is thin enough to run through the hosing. Thats just an example dont disagree with you in general just certain cases

Thats just an example dont disagree with you in general just certain cases ← ditto... ive been running some stendec fluid, but its identicle to maggy blood, but green. to all you clever people : is there anything you can add to maggy fluid (the proper stuff) that will make it thinner? but not balls up the brake. i tried to use gt85 but its just way way to thin... might mix some with some left over fluid and see what i get

Tomm
Just in answer to the original question: You can use normal vegetable oil instead of official magura oil, it's practically the same thing and it won't freeze like water. But it's really thick, doesn't give a very nice feel at the lever at all...

Tomm
and also if you read the rest of the thread you would realise that it is not for a magura so i wouldnt be using magura oil :shifty: DAN ← I did read the thread, so there's no need for that. Vegetable oil is a kind of mineral oil, just like magura blood or whatever Shimano use. FFS don't have a go at me, I'm the only person in this thread who actually answered your question!
