(Y) :) I was just wondering, how many grinds should a Onza Hog rim hold before the sidewalls collapse?

downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
Just keep grinding it a riding it until it screws up. ← i am, but im just wondering how many grinds they normally hold so if i get near to that amount of grinds, i can expect my rim to huck up! Swize
Depends how much presser you but on the angle grinder when grinding , i would say about 9-10 then get your self a new hog rim so when it screws up u can use the same spokes and everything to build ur new one . Tomm
Has anyone actually killed a rim from over grinding it? I seriously doubt that anyone knows. It would depend how much you rim out when you're riding anyway. If it breaks, it breaks...
Janson
~20 grinds and my dx32 is starting to dent quite easily. also, a crack in the brake surface, along the rim about 1" long. i have ground it AT LEAST 20 times, REALLY harsh grinds aswell. I love grinding my rim! should last 15-30 grinds depending on how deep you go.
Ali C
iolos old alex rim dies a slow and painful deather due to grinds, it would just dent if you gave it a funny look, it had loads of cracks in the braking surface. Did him well though

Luke Drewery
I don't know about the hogg but the ronnie takes 15 harsh grinds :'( ← Are you sure?! 15 HARSH grinds? Thats a lot of wear and by the time youve ground the rim 15 times youll probably be bored of the rim or buckled it badly anyway and be looking for a replacement. The Ally rims on my dads XC wore very thin after 10years of useage, then one day the pressure of the tyre just flipped the side of the breaking surface off whilst he was riding along!! Just POP and the whole tyre was off and the wheel rendered useless. Dont want that happening on something big!

You occasionally hear of that happening to XC riders who wear through the rim with their brakes, but that would be on a VERY old rim and probably in some very gritty (abrasive) conditions. The thing is when you grind a rim, you don't really remove much of the sidewall material. You just kinda move it about a bit. Hence rims can take lots of grinds :'(
