caddis
Is it possible to fit triple clamp forks ont a dirt jump bike frame, has any one ever done it and does it go fine?
tom s
As long as the steerer tube size matches up with the headtube size ( 1 1/8") it should be fine (Y), although they may knock the geometry off and make it feel sketch, or put extra stress on places, as you will find a lot of frames are made to suit a fork witha cetain amount of travel. caddis
Do you know of any 26" dirt jump frames that are compatible with triple clamp forks. (Y) Would it be fine for drop offs and such.
Tomm
It would work. But you wouldn't be able to X-up any more. Where's the fun in that? (Y)
Mark W
They don't do triple clamps with less than 5" travel (from what I can remember?), which is basically more than *any* dirt frame will be made to deal with. Typically, they're going to be made with geometry to suit a 4" travel ish fork (100-120mm or so), so putting tripleclamps on there will make the head angle slack (more on that later (Y)), and will raise the BB and so on, making it typically feel worse, with the excess weight on the front too. The main problem is just strength, regarding your frame. The head angle's slacker, so the force is put into it in a way different to how it was supposed to be. Slacker head angle means the head-tube's more likely to rip off if you land harsh fairly frequently. Also, the down and top-tubes on jump frames probably won't be ultra thick, so getting mashed by the fork legs when, say, you fall off, will eventually just bugger it all up. Dents = stress increase on weld. Not ideal. Someone round here had 6" travel triple clamps on a little Brand X-style jump frame. Worst bike ever. N.Wood
The easiest way around this is to not get triple clamps. If you desperately want them to look cool, buy some older ones, they'll have shorter travel (think RockShox Judy XLT's). Just get single crowns for the reasons listed: 1. Cheaper. 2. Lighter. 3. Can do X-ups till your heart is happy and you've fulfilled your dreams of X-up-dom. 4. It won't wreck your frame when you crash, nor will it put extra strain on Mr H.Tube. 5. You won't look like a wannabe DH'er. 6. Bigger choice.
