What You Reckon On This Wheel?

Trials Boy

Hi,

I'm going to get a new front wheel for my birthday, had at look on CRC and made a front wheel up (Custom) This:

Hub: Red Hope XC

Rim: Mavic 32h 729 EX Disc CD Dark Grey (321)

Spokes: DT Swiss Spokes Champion Stainless PG Black 2mm

= £77.49

Is this worth it? What other decent wheels are there that you can get?

Thanks for help.

I use a red hope xc 32h on a mavic x517 rim also in 32h with black stainless steel double butted spokes and i have had it for years with only two true ups and no problems at all. I have been thinking about switching to a single wall echo rim on the front as it actually lighter than my x517 even though it is wider (x517 is about 440 grams where as the single walled echo is about 400)!

Don't buy a CRC built wheel

Why not? I had one built about a week ago, the build quality is ace, but they hadnt tensioned the right hand side so the whole wheel is dished to the left had to whip out the spoke key and tension all the right side half a turn.

Other then that its a really good build!

That sounds the same wheel as his up there, just not with silver spokes(mavic 321 on hope red xc with silver dt swiss spokes)

Cheers

Tom

(i know i answered my own question a little, but if they did the tensioning right i think it would have been a spot on build)

You definitely did answer your own question there, a good wheel build shouldn't require the end user to do anything when it comes out the box. You paid the money for a service, not to do your own handy work to get it dished etc.

My front wheel is a chain reaction build. I've not once, ever, in its life time, which is OVER a year had to true it. Hell, even the spokes are going rusty where they cross.

I have however heard bad things about their builds, but mine is simply withstanding anything, and anyone that has seen me ride will back-up the fact i'm not the smoothest rider ever. (Y)

Friend has a pair of 24" CRC wheel builds and they are awesome (hes a dual rider so they get some stick). Just as good as my tarty built wheels.

The funny thing is the rims only came in stock about 10pm one night (after him waiting about 2 weeks for them) and the built wheels arrived the next morning all the way from northern ireland.

I've never had to touch the D521 on Hope XC built with Revolutions thats fitted to the back of me Azonic, thats had some h/core action.

Both wheels on the trials bike were built by Ad, and i havn't had to touch either of those either.
