Right hand in :P position. Thumb shows direction of movement of nipple, fingers show direction to turn in. Sounds complicated, but when you're holding the spoke key if you're right handed like me it's super quick just to check, and a load easier on your brain than working out which way is which :P Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

From some wheels I've done, that's not always a great way of working out tension, just because there might be some imperfection in the spoke/nipple so it'll bind instead of turning well and so on. Since I've started doing wheels myself I've just totally stopped really caring about the fact that some of my spokes are looser than others.
