Punkrider
Hi all, I have searched, but couldn't find anything relevant. I currently run Hoffman BMX grips with gloves, but they are like plastic, i have blisters under my blisters :) It is starting to stop me from riding because it hurts to hold on (Y) What are peoples views on Monty Foam Grips? Do they twist, wear down quickly, rip your hands up or are they good? Adam
TheMunn
Get yourself some cheap one's, they have a good feel without glove's and are available from most local bike shop's.

munkee
mine were ok while they lasted.. which was 3 rides. Fell doing some natural and they ripped. Didnt see the point in re-investing. I now run some cheapo halfords grips and they are perfect.
RicH_87
monty foam grips aren't actually very 'foamy' they are, from my experience quite corse and hard, and they are very thin, not soft and squishy. If your after comfort then look somewhere else.
Chris Cook
Does anyone know what them halfords foamy type grips are like ? I have heard lots of bad reviews about monty grips ripping striaght away by the way :) (Y)
Tony Harrison
My only gripe with the Monty grips is the fact that they are super thin. Makes holding the bars like trying to grip a cocktail stick. I prefer the Toxsin grips - big and fat, with soft rubber....
JT!
Do they twist, wear down quickly, rip your hands up or are they good? ← No, no and no. They are good. At the price, you might aswell try them. They are less gruppy as rubber grips, but they are thinner. So you tend to hold the bars rather than hold the grips if you get me. Tim
Any foam grips rule unless the foam is double the thickness of your bars. Just make sure you get them thin enough with little sponge in them. Only thing that sucks with foam is they tend to rip way easy. I ride gloveless on my DMR grips, you need to build your hard skin up and you never need gloves again. I actually at one point had hard skin going along my breaking finger. Cheap, thin, plenty of colours, that's the best grips I 'have had for years and any bike shop has them... :P Can't preach more than that... :P

Mark W
My Monty foams wore so thin they tore in a matter of hours. My next set lasted for about the same time (weirdly enough, my first ever pair I bought ages ago lasted for a year and a half. Go figure). The Halfords stuff is so soft it feels like it's moving, and then it tears because it is soft and it is moving. Roadie tape didn't do anything for me except slip off and go wrong. Renthal ATV grips are f**king awesome. A *tiny* bit thicker than Monty foam grips, softer to hold onto, yet mine are showing literally no signs of wear after 3 months use. They're really, really amazing grips. I've tried so many of the f**kers that I could almost be considered a grip connosieur, and these Renthals are just... amazing. £6-7, I believe. Order 'em in soft. They're made for ATV's where the people generally have some burly gloves on, so they're not 24seven mod grip "lighter than air" soft. Really, really good... trialsguru
where did you get your renthal grips from mark? i look all over the place for them and could only find motorbike ones, i thought the throttle grip would have a larger internal diameter so i didnt bother :">
Mark W
The MX ones do 'cos they're obviously taking into account the throttle, but the ATV's are thumb-throttled generally, so they're both the same thickness (left and right, that is). I'll have a gander for you now, I found some straight off on google so I'll try and get the link again... Just search for Renthal ATV Grips :P
chrishayton
bikedock used to sell renthals, so give them a ring. and on the topic of montys i think they are great, dont hurt your hands too much and also look swarve lol. i cut mine down so my hands just fit and have a zip tie on the inside edge to stop them slipping down. koxx grips are also good(the rubbers 1's) nice and thin and very grippy

Hobnobs
Look at marks post, then look at yours, firstly, mark is much better at advertising (Y)" and secondly, everyone else who posted actually helps the guy who made this topic. Toxsin grips £5 posted. Please note... This is not an advertisement. I repeat, this is not an advertisement. This is a statement. Adam I found monty grips to be very nice, but just too hard on my hands. They also ripped very quickly. I now use ritchey wcs foams, but this is my third paid in about 6 months. Was considering ODI Longnecks but theyre not foam, i like foam. Renthal grips next by the sound of things.

joe b
Monty foam grips are the daddy of all grips! Theyre grippy, they dont slip they feel nice. Thin so that you have more control! The only downside is that when they get water on them they obviously act like foam. but dont let that put you off buying some! (Y) Cheers, Joe. the_ferret
when my old grips wore down i started using scooter grips. super comfy and really nice with or without gloves......when they had there life which was a good 9 months i got some basically the same from a bike shop for a fiver there amazing foam grips are good because you can decide if you want to wear gloves or not oggy
Swize
IMO there awful ! I had them a good 2-3 months and hated them. 1st they where just to thin and killed my hands ridding without gloves ; which is what i brought them for :) . 2nd Because they are so thin they tear really easy meaning you have to put some tape on making them slippy. 3rd My hands made holes in them causing them to split . IMO if you would like foam grips go on www.wiggle.co.uk and order some wirtchleys wcs true grips and some nice big bar ends they are perfect !
