Tony Harrison
I'm going to buy a new disk tomorrow for the angle grinder - what sort it best? Stone, metal, playdoh?
Siders77
I use a stone cutting disc. that works just fine. (Y) But i know Tart uses a stone cutting one and that works well to. :-

JIX
I have tried both and I would say that for a fine less harsh grind go for the stone, and for a harsh beast of a grind use the metal cutting. I use metal cutting.

downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
erm..... *goes to see which hes uses* Sergo steel grinding disk man, they are the best iv EVER used!!! VERY harsh!!!) lol, so harsh that koxx bloxx browns wear right down in 4 weeks (Y)
SQuiT-man
I have used a couple of diamond cutting disks (for cutting stone types, so I guess it may be called a stone cutting disk also) that came with my angle grinder but found they make a fairly smooth grind generally compared to a metal cutting disk I purchased the other day, which I have just this minute grinded my rim with. I prefer metal cutting out of the ones I used by some way, but Tart's grind seemed to work reasonably well, and I think that was with stone cutting disk. AdamR28
Aldi do a mixed pack of 12 stone and metal cutting discs for about £4, I've found them to work well.
Damon W
well ive found the metal cutting disks shear little bits off the rim, so as a result youle have an uneven grind (Y) but that might just be the disk i was using :P" and the stone cutting disks are far better imo but you have to press considerably harder to acheive a deep grind (Y) B & Q is were i got a pack of 5 metal cutting and 5 stone grinding all for £8 :D Edited August 2, 2005 by Dw@Hulltrials

AdamR28
Got a pic of a grind you've done with it? Preferably not one that takes 30 minutes to load on 56k (Y)
downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
Got a pic of a grind you've done with it? Preferably not one that takes 30 minutes to load on 56k :P ← lol, as you can see, my camera doesnt like to take pics close up to things (Y) (Y) I might have a go at taking one, but i dont think it will look too good. Of and by the way, i havnt got the roughest grind on my rim as my pads just fall apart when its VERY rough :P EDIT: just tryed to take one, it just comes out blurry. Im gonna read the book to set it as Macro and see if it works :P Edited August 2, 2005 by terror-error
Tony Harrison
Disks are three for a pound here. Not bad, that. Yeah, I'm going to go with a stone one. Thanks again for the help.

dave33
its all in the technique i think i just pick up the grinder and go for it never look at the disc(well just to check its not gonna explode and its safe) :">
Waynio
i found that with a stone disc you end up grinding your disc every other week as with a metal cutting disc it gives you a harsh grind and lasts for a good month or so. weather permitting, if your out and it pisses down in the mud then they dont last that long but it still lets your brake work. Waynio........................ Terror-Error that disc is crazy thik!!!!!!the one i use is probably a 1/4 of that (Y) lol but it still fair chews up the rim and brakes work for ages with out even playing with it,altho it does go through pads :)" :P (sometimes)
Mr Motivator
This is the way I grind, is it correct? Hold the grinder in left hand, handle in right, and left foot on wheel then drag the grinder round the rim to the right keeping the grinder at as much of a 90deg to the rim as possible. Right? Ali C
thats the way I do it except I hold the grinder in my right hand, and the handle in my left, thats normal for a right handed person isnt it? I tend to hold things a bit weird sometimes I use a metal grinding disk, loosk pretty much the same as the one pictures above
Gaz M
Steel Grinding disk is by far the best i have ever used, tried stone, diamond tipped and compared to steel they were crap steel gives the harshest grind ever and last for ages (Y)
