Mr Motivator
Rather than www.trials-forum.co.uk you can have it has something like 23.4583.2824.827 (example) How do you do that? Sam
Simon
http://65.254.55.2/ is the IP, but its a shared server, therefor to access Trials-Forum you need ~trials after, as; http://65.254.55.2/~trials However, as you will notice, it redirects to the proper domain, so its pointless trying to use that anyway. Mr Motivator
Mmm, yeah but how would I be able to get a URL other than tf.co.uk to the numbers? Thats what I meant. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear enough.
Danny
ping it in command prompt and it will tell you the ip address it resolves to.
Mr Motivator
ah had a play.. ping www.website.com gotcha!
Danny
Why on earth would you want this though? Handing out an ip address is stupid because no one will remember it. Its only usefull when setting up servers before youve even got the dns sorted.
Tony Harrison
Although... when we were given a wireless LAN set up in a flat I used to live in the berks didn't set it up properly, and for a while the only way we could get to any sites was by using the IP (as the hostnames couldn't be resolved). Wasn't much use as you couldn't follow links of anything. Spastics... and they were some IT firm...

zoojames
Danny can I just say, your avatar, possibly the most funny/true thing I have ever seen! Keep up the good work (Y) James (Y)
Tony Harrison
Sounds like you needed to setup the dns addresses of your isp on your router/modem ← Well, it was down to the guys who installed it. I wasn't allowed to touch it (being just a lowly resident), although I think in the end I did manage to get hold of the password for the config page. By then I didn't care, because I was moving out of that horrible flat. And yeah, I can so relate to your avatar!!!
