gilly
Right, im currently running plazmatic crm's on a smooth rim....and this brake works amazingly when its clean...... However the pads keep gettin covered in dirt from the rim really quickly and this stops the brake working :turned: Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if anyone can give me any ideas as to how to clean my rim really well (it doesn't look dirty at all!) :"> Thanks
James_Porter
spray muck off on your rim, let it work in for like 30 secs then clean off with a clean rag/tissue and leave for a minute for it to dry. that wont solve the problem for ever though. HargrovesToby
Grind your rim and stop being a tart. ← real great help!! mate, you could get a grind, but there are other options though!! 1. you could get new pads, rimjam blues work imensely on smooth rims. 2. clean the rims with brake and clutch cleaner (from halfords), then file down the pads a bit with an abrasive file, but not too much or youll wear down the pads. hope this all could help, toby
gilly
Thanks for your help, i'll try cleaning the rim with something, as these pads are new, and do work really well when they're clean.
N.Wood
DO NOT get new pads (especially RimJams..), Plaz CRM's are pretty much the best pad to have on a clean rim. Do what James said and use Muc-Off, or make up your own mix of soapy water (does exactly the same thing, and cheaper/easier to get hold of). Take the pads out and give them a good scrub with Muc-Off/Soapy water, and refit. This should give you a clean pad on a clean rim. Should work for a fair while... Water will help if it dies a bit (Y)
_skj0lsvik_
Buy some zoo! pads.... I almost never wash them! Just when I want too :D I use plasmatic crv`s on the front, they gets dirty all the time... (Y)
Luke Drewery
This has happened to me since i first started, and i havent found a way to stop it, its really annoying too (Y) I used to use tar on koolstop pads and clean the rim every so often to ensure that my brake kept working reasonably well. However, i would clean the rim so its shiny, clean around the caliper and pads too, sand off the surface of the pads so thyre clean then ride and from nowhere dirt and grit used to appear on my rim when it got even slightly wet. I couldnt find out where it came from so i stopped bothering and now i run a grind on koxx bloxx anyway and havent used tar for about a year so wet braking=good :D
downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
The dirt is actually metal particals and rubber mixing with the water, so it looks like dirt. just get a grind you tar!
