ok got my second hand echo 2003 team on wednesday, finally got crank extractor and built it up today only to find one of the threads on the magura mounts was completely stripped. i was royally gutted :- but anyways I was thinking ok what the hell can i do... i really wana ride this so i searched the hut and found some nice sexeh zip ties!!! problem solved, until they snap and i die or when i get round to finding someone to re-thread it of weld it or summin.

Anyone got any ideas? because for obvious reasons i'm a little scared on back wheel when trying gaps and stuff.

Drill it out slighty bigger I.E- if its 5mm drill it to 5.5mm or whatever the correct size is for a 6mm tap (which rethreads the hole) might have to open up the hole in the maggy a bit, but hey presto its all safe and sound again.

Make sure you can get a TAP, CORRECT DRILL SIZE & BOLT before starting.

The break is top notch lol, and yer they are just normal plastic zip ties. I was thinking either re-thread it slightly bigger or get a friend to like fill the hole in, drill it then re-thread it. Ill just practice side hops for now.

Jubilee clips work well for some people.

Anyway, DON'T drill it! If you do, you'll have to also drill out your Magura clamps and boosters. Too much fagging around when you could either use Time-Serts or Helicoils, keep the same size bolts, and have a stronger thread all at the same time.

Whatcha gonna do when you strip the M6 threads? :-"

A helicoil is a steel insert that is placed inside a stripped hole on a frame. It has threads inside it, which you use for your bolts.

You can buy a helicoil kit for as little as £15, just Google "Helicoil kit". Alternatively, you could get a local car garage/mechanic to do it for you for pretty cheap :-

Helicoil for sure!!!

I stripped a brae mount in my t-rex, and i was gutted, so i asked about and helicoils where the obvious choice.

It is VERY easy to do! all you need:

Cordless/corded drill

Tap holder

And the helicoil kit(providing this comes with the 5.2mm drill bit and the tap.

The drill the mount out with the 5.2mm drill bit, put the tap into the tap holder, thread the mount, then get the heliciol driver and spin the helicoil down the newly placed thread, Then get the tang remover, put it on the tang, and hit the end as hard as possible, turn the frame upside down so all drill shavings and the tang fall out. and thats it (N)

Easy Peasy, my helicoil kit cost just under 15 quid and came with the 10 helicoil insters, the helicoil driver and the tang remover, but the 5.2mm drill bits where only 10p (N)

i found this problem although mine wasn't completly stripped, and im not as technically minded as some of these on the forum (N)

I just found a longer magura bolt which caught beyond the destroyed thread bit. then when it started to tighten, it was biting enough thread to go in (N)

However that only works if theres some thread left. If its COMPLETLY destroyed as you say, then it wont work. But its worth a try

got Jubilee clips on instead of plastic zip ties, feel alot safer :), going to see about getting it Helicoiled.

Could you not just get and extra long bolt, push it all the way through the mount until it comes out the other side and then put a bolt on and tighten it up? Would work just as well as having normal threads.

Theyre not like the steel ones, theyre solid. Unless you mean go right through the seatstay and out the other side (Y)
