N.Wood
People on here might? I think it's fair to say that even though the odd 'can i see your freeride bikes for inspiration' topics are good on here, this is a trials forum, not a freeride forum. You'd be alot better off looking elsewhere.
iwannaleeson!
my beast :- o, i think you'll find quite a few people own other bikes than just trials bikes. I mean yeah, this is a trials forum but there isnt a rule sayin strictly no other hobbies please! :S" so basically (sam), you may just do trials but other people like expanding their biking talents to other disciplines to mate . . try it, you just might like it :D ben :(

ghosts_cloak
Who owns a freeride bike? ← Just sold mine! Im eagerly anticipating recieving my trials bike in around 2 months! The reason I decided to go rigid and sell my fully was because all I was doing was manuals, hops and balancing on things - and wishing it didnt have a 42t ring and chain device so I could risk trying to hop up that rock.... Cant wait! ~Gareth
Shaun H
There you go. Soon to have Maxxis Minnions or something fat and grippy as those panaracers are just constantly letting me down. Apart from the front's puncture resistance which is rather splendid. I enjoy riding my freeride bike more than my trials bike but trials is so much easier to jus grab and go. Freeride needs a bit of planning and you need to take a big drink (a bugger if you haven't got a camelbak :- ), tools and some spares but once you get out it's just soooo fun. The only drawback is the initial cost of gettin a decent bike. You tend not to break much unless you're a shit rider and land/ride things crap all the time so running costs aren't as bad as with trials. caddis
Hi for those who do freeriding i need a few questions answering cheers (N) Can freeride bikes be ran singlespeed? Can dirt jump bikes be used for freeriding? Can dmr bikes or 24sevens be fitted with sull sus forks? What helps you get more higher on a bike? And can someone write a list of everything i would need to build a freeride from scratch? cheers people (N) Edited July 23, 2005 by caddis

And can someone write a list of everything i would need to build a freeride from scratch? cheers people (N) ← Yes but it'd be absolutely shit. Especially if you're doing proper freeride and riding up the hills as well as down. Dirt Jump frames and maybe forks can be used but a DJ bike isn't really going to ride nicely for freeride although it'd probably take the abuse quite readily. All bikes can be fitted with suspension forks but when fitting forks to bikes you need to ensure you get the correct travel fork as a fork that's too long or short will make the bike ride like a whore. You stand up? Can't be assed to go through all the specifics but basically: Strong hardtail frame that'll take at least 100mm forks Cheap forks around 130mm travel Disc brakes - Hayes brakes although crap on proper mountains (overheat) will work in British areas Cheap wheels such as deore disc hubs (will die eventually but very cheap) on XM321 rims(stronger ones if you want but they should be ok) Deore mechs and shifters Some cheap but relatively strong cranks, can't think of any off the top of my head though Controls are down to personal preference really, but I'd recommend a fairly short stem and some bars with a good rise, I've never seen a seatpost break so should be safe whatever you get. For a saddle definitely get a WTB Power V, you can use it for all day riding or whatever, it's just brilliant (N) Finally go for some Maxxis tyres and some thick tubes, that way you'll save money in the long run forking out for new ones all the time.
