Nick Garland
Ive sprayed a frame before but it already had primer on and my mate wants to spray a frame from bare metal so would it be best to sand it down so the primer has something to grip to? If so in circular motions or any motion?

The best way to make the paint stay is to apply lots of thin coats, allowing time for each to dry. Its tedious but worth it.
Tony Harrison
If it's steel, use a standard metal primer - if it's aluminium you want a primer that is suitable for aluminium, like an etch primer. Check the tin before you buy.

Luke Drewery
You will want to be sanding it definately, and make sure you do buy the correct primer or else he will end up with a crappy paint job that will last a week before it starts to peel and fade. I have seen it happen and its a waste of time if you dont spray the frame and prepare it properly.
sexymike
trouble is, you cant sand welds, or indeed in the corners. wire brush (on a drill) is the best home way, but the BEST way of all is shot blasting, perfect! make sure u use a fine, easy grade of sand and its done slowly, most people just blast until its rougher than a bears behind, Not good!
