manxrider
Hello, Well I've been thinking lately about how like cls and other top riders get up walls. When I watch there videos they don't seem to pedal hop they just lift, are they just bunny hopping or is it a separate technique. If so should i start learning now, or just keep with the pedal hop? Thanks Edit: forgot to say I'm only gettin up about 2n' half ft to 3 Edited July 18, 2005 by manxrider
mod_rider
It is pretty much a pedal hop without pedalling, just muscle it up that wall! :P
manxrider
So there's no peddaling involved? just pull :P
mod_rider
Yeh it's all about body movement by the looks of it. I only tried them today for the first time, and it's all in the leap then throw the bike forward to get it on the ledge. No doubt someone else with more knowledge will be able to advise better. Chicky
I'll be working on this tomomrow. as long as my chainring arrives. From what i understand, you pedal the front up (ala wheelie) and once its up simply do a bunny hop to get the back up, and aim the back for the edge of the ledge. I can already, hop up 3ft so should be able to do this.
the666ers
In this day and age, we either call them 'Bunny hops' or 'Pedal Hops', the latter you use your pedals to give momentum and the earlier you simply heave it up the wall using the classic bunnyhop technique. the_soon_to_be
well all i can say is " its all in the thrust", get yourself a gf and practice :P" your be gettin up 5ft wall soon as gaz
Tomm
Yeah, it's just a bunny hop. Most people seem to be doing taps these days, but Craig and Tunni are definitely showing that it's possible to to bunny hop stuff well. Bunny hops are good if you have loads of speed (IE big run up) :P
Mark W
http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=Bunnyhop-up Dunno how well that works, but it's just a little video of a bunnyhop slowed down so you might be able to get an idea of how it works. Sorta... It's just confidence. Just go for it. Start small, work up. Practise practise practise. All that stuff :P Argh... Putfile's shit. JT!
I can't bunny hop up stuff like people can't roll their tonge. :- I just can't do it. Can't even manual. :P
Mark W
I couldn't do it either, at all. Then I just did a 20"-ish wall, then 3ft, then worked up from there. It's really not too bad if you just get the technique on a small wall. After that, it's just more speed and more oomph.
JT!
The problem i have is i can't bunny hop and land on a curb and stay on the back wheel, i nearly land with two wheels at the same time. Like when you do do gaps onto curbs, you get that feeling of your back wheel going underneath you and infront of you. I can padal hop like that, but i can bunny hop like that. It's quite annoying. :P
Mark W
What bar and stem setup do you have?
JT!
What bar and stem setup do you have? ← A relativly low one, flat carbon onza bars on a moty raiser stem. But a few spacers to make up for the hight loss.
Mark W
Hmm, I was thinking it could've been a low front end making it harder to do, but that doesn't sound too bad really... Just practise it, I guess. I spent a while learning to do manuals and the basic sort of bunnyhop technique. Bunnyhopping stuff's damn good fun though; that wall's loads easier to bunnyhop than pedal-up!

I think that's where the problem is, not having the confidence to get to that balance point. :P I supose it could be worse, it could be the other way round. Mark W
It's the same as just doing normal gaps 'n' shit though, although bunnyhop gaps feel sketchier to me. But yeah, focus on doing them up stuff. You'll get used to the control you'll need to do them, and the technique itself, then you can fire 'em off over gaps... Tomm
Bunny hopping is my main aim for the next few weeks. I've never really been able to do it on my Koxx, the front end kinda comes up unpredictably. Sometimes really fast, sometimes so slow that you face-plant the wall... But I wanna learn - it's just such a cool way of riding. You can do them fast, you can do them slow. To backwheel, frontwheel, two wheels, wallrides, 180s etc. It's one of those really fundamental things that people should be able to do, but kids these days just can't. And JT you just gotta practise.

ghosts_cloak
Hi, I am a little nervous about getting my trials bike and bunnyhopping actually. I can bunnyhop my DH bike half reasonably (with a bit of practise I can get it over a 1.5 - 2 foot wall without touching it) but whenever I have tried a hardtail rigid my compress / rebound / pullup technique no longer works and I only get a few inches :P( Good luck with your bunnyhops! ~Gareth

Watch a few vids of people bunnyhopping or find some online guide (trials/mtb/bmx - it doesn't matter the theory is the same) but actually force your self to compress (and tuck up) more. In a similar vein i did a gap the other week - i wasn't making it, so i tried compressing and tucking up more and i made it, but also i watched it back on video camera and i actually wasn't doing it as much as i tought i could - in fact i was hardly tucked up....but yeah practice. the666ers
You know when you've done a good bunny hop because your arse scrapes on the tyre. That's obviously maximum tuck so will be as high as you can go realistically.
Davetrials
So there's no peddaling involved? just pull :P ← Edit: forgot to say I'm only gettin up about 2n' half ft to 3 Mmmm find a tape measure.. if ur just pulling and hoping for the best but managing 3ft, then thats quite special. manxrider
No Imean proper pedal hop for that.
The Dude
for getting to backwheel i use half a pedal and throw the bike up, using my arms. if its high i use a tap and alot of speed. bunny hop is good for up to 2 wheels, up to manual and wallrides. well...anything BMXy really. use a pedal if you want, dont if you prefer not to, its about the individual rider.
