Richie
i'm thinking about getting a mini for my first car due to insurance being cheap its a good way to get 1 years no claims, erm i just wonderd what corners and stuff are like and do they struggle on motorways? do you feel small in them lol. Rich9804
i just wonderd what corners and stuff are like ← Wooot, Minis are possibly the best little cars for corners! They don't have suspension springs like all other cars, but they actually use little rubber blocks (N) Basically you can go about twice as fast arround corners than in other small cars, obviously the tyres can be a little restrictive when it comes to high speeds on corners but you get what you pay for with them.... :shifty: As for motorways, a 1.3 mini will defineately keep up! as long as it's serviced and looked after it should last for many many miles. Such retro cars ;) -Rich

Edit: I'm new to mini's ← to be honest mate I don't know much about them either :shifty:" Your best bet would be to find a decent forum for minis, there will be loads no doubt as it's a clasic! -Rich P.S. - I wish I'd found the forum for my polo before i'd bought it...Gives you things to look out for on the specific cars etc.

RicH_87
I used to love minis, now i can hardly stand them. Around 13 years ago it was a regular first time car, good run about in comparison to other cars at the time, cheap and cheerful. But nowadays they just seem like another way of racking up cool points. Imo, mini's are good as a project, and i love seeing nice ones that have had a lot of time spent on them, but why would anyone want it as their first time car, when there are alot better and cheaper alternatives nowadays? I'm not having a go at you but i'm just interested as to why you chose that (not so tip top condition) mini over a Clio, Fiesta or Polo? which i bet are a lot cheaper to run, and a lot better cars. And why is there so many topics on them? i don't make whole topics on my car nor does anyone else. Fair enough if it was a ferrari or something, but its just a crappy old mini. rocktrials
not exactly crappy, i understand what your getting at rich, but....i have a saxo too, but dislike it, no character or whatever, love older cars....i wanted either a polo gt or a mini cooper 1275, my friend got a polo gt, and we said we would either get a polo or mini, and this came along great deal so i snapped it up....much more fun to drive than other cars too. obviously IMO
RicH_87
ok, if you have already owned another car and wanted a bit more character then fair enough. Its just that some people go straight for a mini just becasue other people say its cool, i'm sure you must have some kinda idea what i mean. After all, its just a car, and not a very good one at that. Sure, it WAS a bit of a British icon and a great car in its time, but for me it's just not got that 'wow a mini' factor any more. I know many people will disagree, and think it's still a classic, and for many reasons it is (the monte carlio ralley mini is an awesome little car with a great history) but nowdays i don't undertand why anyone would go for a banger of a mini, over a reliable run around such as a polo or a fiesta. For me it's a great project car, i love the twin bike engine convertions, and the wide arches, and the stretch limo or mini wheelie editions but as a first time run around, there's no reason to buy one, and deffinatly no reason to boast about in, becasue times have changed and there are a lot better options around. Prawny Baby
obviously the tyres can be a little restrictive when it comes to high speeds on corners but you get what you pay for with them.... As for motorways, a 1.3 mini will defineately keep up! as long as it's serviced and looked after it should last for many many miles. Such retro cars (Y) -Rich ← i wouldnt say that about the tyres rich..... id put a LOT of money on my mini being able to keep up with ANY sub 30k car (type R included) on a counrty lane, and 90% of sub 50k cars.... it genuinely is THAT good, nothing handles like a mini Rocktrials-welcome to the real world my friend, there is only one problem, your hooked now, once you pass your test, and take your mini out on your own for the first time, thats it, mini will be in your blood, and you wont escape it until the day you die! mine was ment to be a 400quid run around for 3 weeks.... ended up costing £1200 to buy, and total cost now is close to 7 grand! mind you, it does pull easily past 100mph in 3rd gear, and will go on to pass 130 in 4th.... so it aint exactly slow. glad you got a 1275, cant stand 998's, as lovely as tehy are, theyre just too slow to put up with! anyway, lovely looking mini mate, could do with some wheel spacers to fill out those W&P arches a touch.... (i think theyre W&P) playmini exhaust looks (and probably sounds) nice top job mate! *trundles off to the caraudio thread to reply....*
