endofreak
Just buy it. You know you want to. :P Seriously though, they are awesome frames. They ride extremely well.
Trebor
Sorry to be a bit of a bummer . . . . But from most experiences I've read about, the extra bottom bracket height, i.e. one of the main aspects of the frame, is only needed if you ride hardcore UCI, other areas of performance are likely to be neither helped nor hindered, you'll just adjust to the frame and carry on progressing at the same rate you would if you still had your old frame. That is, unless, your current frame's not too great :) For example, Tunni was hardly impressed with his new Pitbull, with the bb rise, so went back to the older model. Ali C went from an Echo Pure to a Hi-Fi, then sold it a month on to get the new Echo Control :P

I have adjusted to it now and it feels fine but the only advantage I have found is sightly more clearance over logs etc. Hmm. I think the most essential thing in a trials bike is short chainstays really. I have 390 stays which are the 'longest shortest' around at the moment but they feel fine. If I were you Id go for frame that has a horrizontal BB (No more than +10) and nice short stays, for example the new control. 1065 for BIU and 1085 for UCI :P The GU is nice but I'd only get one if I had a spare 400, but not as a serious frame. Hmm, Sam
Steve-A
1065 for BIU and 1085 for UCI ← Surly that 20mm difference in wheelbase has much more to do with personal preferance and height than which competition you ride? And in the UK you would only be riding BIU competitions too, so does that mean we all need to run 1065 or shorter? Sorry if the post is a bit rude, it isn't meant to be, but might sound like it. I just personally find this obsession with whether people are BUI or UCI a bit annoying. Ride what you want how you want. Back on topic....... Get the GU. If YOU want it, try it. You'll never know how it suits you till you try it, it maybe that with hindsight that it was a bad move, but you'll never know that unless you buy one. dave85
I think sam was referring to the style you ride in, rather than the competitions you enter, but yeah, semantics are annoying.....

Boothy
Do you know anyone that has one that you could have a go on? As that will help more than anything. Everything I have heard about them has been good though.
thechink
no bottom bracket rise is the best way or maybe +10 at the most. all a high bb does is make it feel like a pogo stick on the rear wheel. i am better on my coust than the vinco i had. thechink
RyanRs
cheers peops. i dont no about bui and uci stuff, not really interested in comps etc.. With reguards to my riding style, i would say street, but everyones idea of street seems different.. So, i would say my riding style is the same as neil tunnicliffe. i ride an orange zero at the moment, which is a CRAP frame! and it is a massive holdback to my riding. so any new frame i get is gona feel strange, length etc, so i think i might as well take the plunge and get a bike with fab geo ,ie the GU and adapt to it. i ride my mates Long 05' zoo python quite alot, and it feels lovely? but im not sure on the geo of that? i have also looked at the BT raven 6.0 but i think its way too long. the GU short seems like a nice length. Shaun H
The Raven6.0 also has quite alot of BB rise I think? I'd get something abit more conventional than the GU or anything with a mega high BB. Not sure what to suggest though lol Whatever you get should feel alot better than your Zero though :shifty:
RyanRs
BUMP .... Anyone elso own something simila and like it? Would having the high BB make the bike feel like a 20" -cos surely that aint a bad thing?! Ry
Rich Pearson
What does BIU and UCI actually mean? :"> ← Biketrials International Union, I'm pretty sure, and as for UCI, probably something in french with the words union and cyclo in there somewhere, not sure. I wouldn't get the gu, having had a go on the high BB frames like the control and the raven, I really found them horrible to ride. Just my opinion. SQuiT-man
I think high BBs are great as they allow more body movement over comparably sized wheelbase bikes. That means your body has more distance to move, which means you can chuck your weight about better, which should help for gapping, etc. Yeh I would go for it mate (Y)

Trebor
Is that because you've progressed like any other rider out there or did you notice an instant change in your performance?
Ali C
I dont know how to feel about high bb frames. My hi fi was really nice, exellent on the back wheel, super for sidehops and mint for bunnyhops. However, I couldnt tap to save my life, not even bar hight. I also found myself losing balence and just falling off for no reason. I am now on a control with a small amount of bb rise, my riding has improved nicley, my taps are back, gaps are bigger and its just as good on the back wheel and I much prefer it for riding natural. The only thing that has suffered are my sidehops. High bbs are personal, I dont like them, but luckily with tartybikes help its easy for me to swap frames without wasting money, so I wasnt stuck with a frame I didnt like. You might like it, but if you dont it will be bit of a waste.
