Brisa
Well, I went over on my ankle a few months ago and went to the hospital. Was a sprain. It has never really healed properly by the feels of things but I went out on the pitbull yesterday for the first time in ages. Sidehopping some pallets and bailed onto my ankle again. Once this heals I would like some sort of good support before I ride again. I work in JJB sports and have had a look at their ankle support but it doesn't look like it will do much. Any suggestions and where to get them would be great.. Thanks
Towler
Yer went over my ankle 2 days ago. I have just some ankle support and its helped also went looking for some natty rocks and stuff and walking around on it seems to have strengthened it. AdamR28
I would recommend actually sorting the problem, rather than just relying on a support to do it for you. Supports are great to allow your ankle to heal, but after that, you really need to work on strengthening and building up the receptors again, to prevent further injury. James_Porter
FOX ANKLE GUARD Designed for athletes like, pro dirt jumper, Chad Kagy, who are tired of the "ankle bite" common among riders pushing the limits of what a bike can do. Impact protection comes in the form of thick rubber logos. Perforated neoprene construction with Lycra binding provides flexibility and airflow. The Guards stay secure via the Nylon webbing belt with Velcro closure. Part Number: FFANKGD Size Available: S/ML/XL Price: £19.99 (EUR 29.49) sam wheeler uses them now after he did his ankle in. i was thinking about getting some but i got some yik trials shoes instead, they seem to support your ankle quite a bit so i dont really see the need for the fox ankle supports aswell...touch wood (Y) you can order them fox supports about half way down this page... fox ankle supports
AdamR28
Thats an ankle GUARD, not a support - its just to stop knocks. The 'trials shoes' don't offer any support worth bothering about.
Brisa
The strengthinging you talk about, is it just the list of things they gave my in the hospital. Like make circles with it and stuff or are there any other more advanced exercises?
endofreak
I remember someone mentioning a device called a "Wobble Board". Its basically a circular board with a semi sphere underneath which you have to keep your' balance on. Like THIS.

Some decent ones here: http://www.mckinley.uiuc.edu/Handouts/ankl...nklesprain.html.

AdamR28
Cheers Stevie, that looks like it will keep movment in everything. Might have to invest on one. ← Yep, it also does the same jobs as the 'Balance' exercises on the link i provided, but to a higher level (cos its much harder to do!). Gonna get myself one I think (Y)
Littleharrys
I use the sports type straps, you can get the good ones for 15-20 pounds in places like boots, superdrug etc. I use these when i have damaged it. But when its ok I always wear thick socks and Fox ankle guards, they have elastic and plastic shells with foam for the ankle bone and a strip down the back to protect the tendon. Good for stopping pedals or rocks catching your ankles and v comfortable. 10 pounds each. Harry
physio
i agree with adam the best thing to do is to find out exactly what you have done and work from there it is too easy for the hospital to say its a sprain, go away and rest it, itll be ok in about 4 weeks and then you dont do the site specific exercises to prevent this from happening again then you feel confident on it again and forget about it, fall backwards off your bike onto that dodgy foot and it folds like a waffle the best thing to do is find out if its just hyperextension of a ligament or actually a ligament tear, this can be established quite easily by the extent of the swelling and the amount of bruising you have and where it is from this i can "roughly" tell you what type of sprain it is, grade 1 (tweak) grade2 (tear of some ligament fibres) or grade 3 (fubar) the area of swelling is the best indicator of what ligament has been injured and what type of sprain it is, then i can give some site specific exercises for it to help strengthen that area of the ankle up to prevent repetitive tweaks and sprains if you want ot contact me so we can go into this further then you are more than welcome silord@hotmail.com is how i can be contacted either by email or msn messenger si
Brisa
Well the first time it happened I had a lot of swelling around my ankle itself and quite bad bruising around the left and right sides of my foot and along near my toes. This time I have a lot less swelling and only small faint brusing on the left of my foot and a small amount on the actual protruding ankle bone. I want to exercise it properly to give it some strength of its own but I would like to still get an ankle support for when riding just as an extra measure. Thanks for all of your help.
