Hope Trials

Impacted.

G'day,

So, I've had this hope trials brake for about 6 months and so far it's been nothing but shit. I've put up with it for the whole 6 months now and just recently it got rained on, a lot. So it's uber wank (even more than usual, like at 10 km/h takes a good 3 meters to stop on full power with one finger) so I think "Fair enough I'll just go and ride down a hill a see what happens" and it was still crap like before, just then I noticed that if I spin my wheel backwards it stops really well with good bite (well compared to spinning it forwards anyway). So I switch the pads over right and set the brake up again and now when i pull the lever up to the bar the pistons don't move :( .

I don't know what to do. Can I send it back to hope and had it re-bled and serviced? (even though it came with the bike and I bought it from france)

Or is it just me being stupid?

Thx, Daniel.

I had problems with my one aswell. It wouldnt bite or hold very well.

I kept fidling with it but nothing really made a difference.

So I just left it alone and got on with riding and suddenly it became very good indeed.

I just recently changed by forks because I cracked the mount on my ti forks, and when I changed them over it went crappy for a bit but soon came back good as ever.

You could just try and leave it alone for abit and see if it sorts itself out.

Its funny you saying it got worse because of the rain because my one is almost better in the wet.

Fair enough but have you left it alone for a substantial amount of time??

Try sanding the pads lightly and cleaning the rotror with warm soapy water. Then rinse off the rotor thouroughly and allow it to bed in again. Dont do any thing fancy like ride down a massive hill then chuck water on it, just do it by riding normally. Worked for me.

Also see if the pads hit the disc square, because you might need your fork mount facing.

I know its frustrating, just think to your self that there is a solveable reason.

Yeah try cleaning your system with some type of disc brake cleaner. It will make the brake feel crap at first but then it gets better. I just left mine alone and let it bed in slowly and it works immense. Just try and give the brake a service yourself but if it gets that bad send it to hope and see what they can do. Im sure they will be happy to help :(

Cheers peter

ok

1. face fork mount

2. take pads out of brake and ensure the rotor sits squarely down the centre of the calliper

3. make sure rotor is 100% clean, use hope sh1t shifter of x lite muc off, do not touch the rotor as your oils in your skin will contaminate it

4. buy a new set of pads, hope sintered i reckon, dont put your fingers on them

5. check brake is bled correctly, refer to your instruction manual or hopes website

couldnt have said it better....

many people touch disk brake rotors and pads with bare hands, it isnt a good idea!

I haven't touched the disk, that's not the problem, when I say the brake is shit , I mean it feels like crap (sometimes pistons stick ans is spongey as fook) and doesn't stop you.

I think i'll send it off to hope. Thx anyway people.
