Well, i seem to have noticed this trend. There will be a few years of new riders, so like me, brendan, lee and scott. Thats 16 to 19 at the moment. However, for the past few years, there has been no one new, but now we are older, there are people just below our age group starting.

So like, a group will start, ride for a few years with no one new starting, then a new bunch will start.

If you get me? (Y)

So it will seem like its growing, but its just the natural life cycle of trials. Thing is, just as many quit as start up. :P

Like a sudden surge in riders, then a halt for a bit. Then "a new crop" grows :)

Round my area there are about five or six dedicated riders, only two or three go out often though! I have noticed that last year loads of people started, mainly very young riders but now the scene where i live is just about dead except for a very small bunch (Y)

I was the first trials rider in my area. When some street riders saw me they liked what they saw so now there are a few more trialsers to ride with. I'm sure they will inspire more people as well.

It is growing where I am.

I think its growing, but very slowly as only a few hardcore riders stick with it.

I think its because larger sports, mainly bmxing tend to draw trialsers away, because although there is a lot of things you can do on say, a single wall, its more fun to ride in bigger groups and always learn new tricks at the skatepark.

Trials is very much a specialist sport, which in my opinion limits the amount of riders. Its very expensive and the response from people is a tad annoying. Ie "wheres your seat" etc etc.

In my area it grew, and then shrunk.

My town isn't short of a few lameo's on T-Pro's they ride to the park to get pissed at the age of 14, not riders therefore! There's 3 riders in my town, and about 12 I could name in Worcestershire, a couple of which are damned hardcore and have been doing this for nearly as long as I would've liked to have been :)

I think our sport is gradually getting more participants , but it may seem to be getting larger as a result of increased media exposure .

It's also the case that the more people who ride , then more they will inspire others to attempt it . Unfortunately , the first year is crucial to whether someone continues with it , as it's pretty frustrating learning the basics , and having only shredded shins to show for it .

I've noticed a few more people attempting tricks on bikes since I moved to my town . Incidentally , I like men :) .

I agree. I think trials is gaining more participants simply because the population is growing. Percentage-wise, I don't think trials has any more people than before, before what I don't know. It does take a committment to do it though, that is the problem. Takes work and practice, not quick and easy enough for most folks. Media attention always helps. Plus, as the overall number of riders grows, the number of people that see the sport also grows, hopefully introducing more to it.
