Si-man
Theres on of those new mercs in blackpool, that V12 fast as fook one. That certainly turns heads when it rumbles past. Mates dads evo 6 does 0-60 in something like 3.5 seconds. isn't standard though

Can fit 3 bikes and 3 riders in easy+kit! Cracking little car! Theres a few things I wanna do to it but its just having the money!
Tony Harrison
I always think its funny when you past the carparks full of modded cars on Friday night and they've all got the bonnets lifted up even when all there is is a standard 1l Vauxhall engine with a K&N. Still, I suppose there's no harm in pretending. Reckon they spent too much time watching Fast & Furious and not enough time listening to their physics teacher when he was telling them what torque actually is. Right now I'd like a 2l turbo diesel Astra, as I think it would be nice to get around in, a bit sporty but still good on fuel if you don't rag it. Still, reckon that Focus estate is a good sized car, as you say you can get all your kit in no probs. Always nice when I can use my dad's Vectra as you can drop the back seat and stick a bike in without taking the wheels off. Just a shame we get arse-raped for insurance these days. hazzyhaslam
yeah, thats costing a grand to insure. :D i think its nice to see a full engine bay compared to the engine bay of a 1.1 or summat! Make my engine look huge!
JTM
135bhp as standard from 1.8?!?! shit the bed The fezzy 1.6 sport only has 105bhp!!!
hazzyhaslam
I know, crazy init. Theres a bloke on the ffoc forums with a 150bhp one standard! God only knows whats going on! And with the last owner being 60 I dont think he'll know what a bluefin chip is! Seems to be on focus's born around the year 2000, millenium bug maybe? EDIT: focus 1.8 are only supposed to have 118bhp standard. Edited June 25, 2005 by hazzyhaslam
JTM
How you know it has 135bhp then? You had it RR'ed??? I was thinking about focus' for my next car. Wont be till around crimbo time like but was just considering it. Needs to be good for the motorway miles so was thinking about the 1.9tdci ones. But I dunno how insurance would like that. Defo need a more efficient car for when im travelling further next yeah.

Extreme_biker0
Diesel is the way to go, definately. My friend has the new 1.5 tdci focus (new new) and it pulls like anything. Real nice drive. But the best part? Averages 62mpg. Yes, 62. I get 45mpg out of the punto 1.2 8v. And the focus is so much faster. Diesel is the shit. By the way, TDCI stands for: Turbine powered intercooler Diesel Commonrail Injection. Fact of the day!

MrMonkey
I'm getting a Cooper, 1.2 engine, then when I can get insured on one a 2.7 mustang then when I can get a 4.8-5.0 engine get that. hazzyhaslam
How you know it has 135bhp then? You had it RR'ed??? Yeah, ill find the print then bash the scanner till it works and get them up for you. It 132bhp. I'd recommend the focus to anyone, so smooth on the motorway. Its a little costly on petrol (400miles per tank)but there so much fun to drive for a family car. Handles like a dream, looks nice(even in estate form) and pritty reliable. I find it plenty quick enough even if the acceleration feels a little slow.

Are there any hatchback diesel focus' with 6 gears? Makes motorway driving far more cost effective lol. Just need something which will cruise at 80/85mph whilst being easy on the juice. Alexx
Well I currently Drive this 1.0 letre MONSTER: (Though it is a nice little car for what it's ment for!) And In about 6-7 years time once i'm out of uni and earning decent money I want: Saleen s281 mustang extreme *drools*, 550bhp of american muscle :- 5 letre, supercharged v8 mustang engine with 2 free flowing 2.5" exhausts... now thats how a car SHOULD sound! Faster than most cars I'd care to name, bar the few super cars that cost like hundreds of thousands...

( I work at Ford.........) 1.5 TDCI????? last i knew was 1.8 or 2.0 ltr.... oh and the 1.6 in the 'all new focus' and c-max Ah sorry yeah it is 1.6l then. Knew it was one of those two. It is Turbo Diesel Commonrail Injection... but turbo itself stands for 'Turbine powered supercharger', hence the full name. Turbine powered intercooler Diesel Commonrail Injection. Oh shit sorry i said intercooler first didn't I! :"> :'( Nah it's Turbine powered supercharger. What they wanted to do was to force more air into the cylinders, so they invented the supercharger. It was powered off the drive shaft, and span a fan to force air into the cylinder. But because it ws powered off the drive shaft it took power away from the engine (as well as increasing it (net increase)). Then they thought, look, you could spin this using a turbine using the torrent of exhaust fumes travelling away from the engine. Hence the turbine powered bit. Then shortened to TURBO. Then they used the word for everything like street fighter turbo and stuff ^_^ :- . They still use superchargers on certain cars, but they are less efficient, the advantage of them being that you dont have to wait for the exhaust pressure to be high so that the turbo 'spins up' (turbo lag), seeing as they are powered off the drive shaft. A twin-turbo system where one of the turbo's is smaller means that the smaller turbo spins up faster and gives some boost before the ker-chonga second one gives full boost. They do twin turbo systems where both turbos are the same size though, the reason for this being that turbo's get VERY hot when compressing the massive amounts of air that they do (hence what intercoolers are for) and the twin turbos share the air compressing to massive air huingry engines. It all makes so much sence doesnt it!? A high percentage of the energy output of an engine is wasted as heat and pressure in the exhaust system, and a turbo makes use of this! OD404
you know your stuff :-. how does the lancia supercharger/turbo charger combo. compare with twin turbos??????? ← Turbochargers and Superchargers alter the BHP/Torque curve in very different ways. The power curve for a supercharged engine tends to be quite linear as the pressure (boost) developed but the supercharger is directly linked to the engine speed. Vary the engine speed linearly and the power increase varies linearly... Because turbochargers use exhaust gases to drive the compressor, the power increase is linked to the pressure and velocity of the exhaust coming from the engine. This is by no mean linear and results in a power spike (usually located somewhere in the top third of the rev range). Turbochargers don't take power away from the engine (as has already been said), which is clearly an advantage over superchargers, but they do not give much of an increase in power at the lower end of the rev range. Superchargers although they drain power from the engine do give and increase in power at lower revs and the increase in power over the rev range is far smoother. Thus there is its advantage over the turbocharger. The choice between the two really depends on what you are looking for. I believe Lancia were looking for a decent increase in power at both the bottom and top of the rev range which is why they opted to use both. Twin turbos (used sequentially as opposed to using one for each bank of cylinders on a V6 for example) simply gives two power spikes at different locations in the rev range, this helps to smooth out the power curve, but still doesn't give the sort of low down power offered by the supercharger.
