Anyway, here are some updated pictures of the frame, now in the production stage: It'll theoretically come in at around the £460 mark. It's available from Tartybikes, Selectbikes and Bikedock. Geo is: - 1075mm and 1100mm wheelbase options - +60mm BB rise - 375mm chainstays - U6 aluminium construction Fairly standard, with the exception of the chainstays which are a bit shorter than usual. That stuff doesn't come cheap, really... ← Ye, if you look at the amount of work that's gone into the frame, from designing, material, waste material, production, finsihing, testing, CNC programming, fixtures for each CNC bit, different programs for each CNC bit, computer testing etc etc, it all adds up, which would explain why it's the price it is, I think it's a lot of frame for the money, so much work gone into making it. Fancy tech bits and a flashy design doesn't necessarily mean it'll ride well or last (like the first Vincos that died super quick?) though... But there was some fuss about the watermarked pictures we use, so I wont post links to them. You can also see pics of the new GU forks, too. As for the price, ditto what Phil said. Theres a lot of work in the CNC'd parts of the frame. Most of those parts will have had to be re-clamped during machining at least once, which is a major cost increase (its gotta go back in exactly the right place, which takes a fair amount of time). There is also a LOT of waste (big holes, cutouts for tyre clearance). Longevity... to the trained eye, the design is very sensible. Top and bottom yokes with large weld areas, open ended downtube gusset, other head tube gusseting, huge weld area on the dropouts, and a long bracing plate between the down and top tubes (with their end sufficiently far enough away from the BB shell and head tube to remove the majority of stress concentrations). Claimed weight is also 4.5lbs, so in real terms, thats gonna be more like 4.7, 4.8 - a very good weight, especially for a frame constructed from U6 tubing, which we all know by now is a great material for trials frames. The side plates are pretty much the same as a Vinco, except the weld hasnt been ground away. I believe the Vinco problems were due to a hole in the tube for internally routed cables, which has now been removed. If you compare it to something like a Koxx XTP, I would say the amount of frame you get for your money is very good. Adam Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Waynio Posted June 22, 2005 Report Share Posted June 22, 2005 the only thing i dont like about it is that long gusset down from the top and down tube...........it looks over done in that area but there is obviosly a reason for it being there? the line of the frame looks wikid, it all drops through nicely instead of the down tube dropping to the b/b then the b/b going slightly down to chainstays it goes down rapidly and nicely......... does have that something about it though. i wouldnt say it was gash like i thought the BT were but its deffinatly different. Meh, why they need ANOTHER new brand is beyond me. If I had to guess I'd say that this frame wasn't great/was weak and they didn't want to tarnish the Echo name.
