mat hudson
hey i'v come into money and i am going to get an avid mechanical disk brake. i have had a look on ebay and there appears to be 2 different kinds of the mechanicle disk. the bb5 and the bb7. i was wondering what the difference is between the two, i thought someone may have posted this before but couldnt find anything. thanks, mat
chrishayton
the bb7 is more adjustable. the bb7 is also the one that most people on this forum have. i use this brake and its amazing, i strongly sugest buying one. chainreaction and woollyhatshop.com are the cheapest places to buy them from
JT!
There isn't any real significet difference, just get the BB7, it's goto be slightly better as it's a bigger number "
PaRtZ
it's goto be slightly better as it's a bigger number :-" ← Hehe i like the theory B) I have no idea Matt as i said before, but Will arnold might help as he is very disc brake intelligent

mat hudson
cheers, but is the bb5 actually more powerful or is that just what someone has been told??
Urpedigreechumdog
Not really, and the rotor is a bit poop.
ZeroMatt
They are the same apart from the adjustability, the bb7 is easier to adjust because of those little adjuster bits on the side.
Urpedigreechumdog
But the rotor on the bb5 does look really crap
mink
chainreaction and woollyhatshop.com are the cheapest places to buy them from  ← Chainreaction only appear to have 203mm front discs (which is a bit excessive) and woollyhatshop (perhaps the worst site ever) only have rear ones. The front ones on ebay are 160mm, which is too small. So, anyone know where I can get a 185mm front avid fairly cheap?

But i would deffiantly recomend a BB7, i had one and it was an amazing brake, almost as good as my 180 mono trial :D Adam
