Matt_Tupman
Not sure if it's still avalible but I had a rear rim with the corse coating for a short period of time and it was a bit crazy  Get the medium grade so you have alteast a bit of modulation :o other than that yeah it's great go for it :'( Edited June 15, 2005 by Xdream
N.Wood
I heard it eats pads way to quickly, and is expensive. Didn't Bennifer have it done? Someone did...hmm.

biketrialler
haha that legendary Plaz rim! It went from Deano on section7... to Jon Mackinnon. To Dean Walker in frimley. Then erm... Deano sold it somewhere. It was an Alex DX32 black rim. It worked amazingly, like a permanent super harsh grind - but kinda like sandpaper effect on the edge rather than lines. This made it eat pads faster than any grind ive ever seen - Magura blacks in erm 4 days, and thats 4 short rides. Maybe 12hours out of a set of pads  It went through a set of Plaz pads quick too, and a set of xlite longs. Good idea, just not that practical. spunkey_monkey_boy
have you tried sand mixed with emulsion? that might work...
Ali C
I smashed up a bench grinding disk (the type to sharpen tools) into powder then super glued it to my rims. It was waay to harsh, went through a set of kool stops in an hour, even started chewing up the plastic backings

spunkey_monkey_boy
even started chewing up the plastic backings :- ← well in that case why not do that to your rim and run solid plastic pads made out of the backing???
Mr Motivator
ive tried 'no more nails' before and its just too damn good! the pard sometimes dont release :- im trying to find something a lil less abrasive ahha ← I told you that (Y)
Ali C
well in that case why not do that to your rim and run solid plastic pads made out of the backing??? ← because I doubt they would last longer than a day too :-
Tartridge
well in that case why not do that to your rim and run solid plastic pads made out of the backing??? ← Because the backing material is very soft, and not wear resistant at all. It would be entirely possible to make some pads to work on that sort of coating... given the right knowledge.

Good idea, just not that practical. ← *lol* ahhhh my old rim (Y) good to know it is still alive somewhere. Breaking was amazing to say the least but yes it went through pads. I got through the Maguras blacks riding back from the local bikeshop with my then new Echo (about 1 mile and I didn't even do any trials), then a complete set of 4 of Plaz pads in about 4 hours riding. So my advice would be to get a medium coating done if it is still available.
Caleb
Where exactly did you get it done? id definitely look into it. No grinds, no tar, can use magura black pads withouting smashing your teeth out. win!win!win!
chrishayton
hmmm. i might have a couple of good ideas for rim coating. i mite have a go too lol. should be fun, and i got a load of rims to try it out on. and try not to make it too abrasive. hmm i'll get back too you all
BI-KING
I remember that rim, i think something a little less harsh should be made so your pads last more than a day lol. I might have to try a few things out too (Y)" ummm this should be good! Some one should start doing this no more grinds, your rims will last longer, no thin sidewalls :-
