Hey guys!

Well basically i've been recently thinking about what to do in life!

The ultimate thing of all things would be to get a good job in photography!!

This is kind of like one of my goals and as many of you may or may not know im very interested in it!

I am hopefully getting some sort of work experience in London around summer time which should be good!

I want to know what you think about how would be the best way to go about getting a job, preferably sport photography but im up for anything!

So do you think it would be best to go to uni and get all the fancy degrees or go into a job with tranning!?

For some of you who go to uni you may know what i should do!

Please give any advise on what you think is the best way to go about it!?

Cheers

Rob :( ^_^

keep at it for starters rob! ive been thinking the same, yet more along the lines of film/media with camera work, yet do not know how to approach.

best thing rob is to get work experience with people. ive got the opportunity to work with a sheffield based photographer and her company whenever i want if i choose to.

i dont know about the fancy degrees....cause you dont really need them to show your good do you....all you need is portfolio of stuff.

rob will say finepix S5500 fuji, and i will say the same, yet its not 5 mp, its 4 i think, yet awesome camera for the price. the camera might not be fully digital, do you mean automatic? well its probably fully automatic, yet can use manual.

me and rob have our portfolios dont we steven.

Me too. How weird.

I need a new camera. Fully digital, 5 MegaPixles plus, anyone got any suggestions?

I need a portfolio! :(

Go DSLR, the quality is superb, and you have far more creative options open to you. I would have a look on Ebay for a secondhand Canon EOS 10D, as these have been updated by the 20D. Similarly, look at the 300D, again by canon, which has now been superseeded by the 350D, so again you should be able to save yourself some money.

I have an EOS 10D, which i paid just over £500 for on Ebay 6 months ago, you should be able to pick it up for less than that now.

I did my Art exam using a Fujica SLR, and really enjoyed it. I've always liked photography and now I'm considering trying to see what sorta career I could get in it too. I'm gonna need a new camera too, so I think I'm leaning towards the Digital Rebel (it's something like that anyway :(), some random Canon DSLR. I really can't use automatic digital cameras to get the sorta shots I want, really...

Anyway, lens based media art foundation courses seem to be the norm if you want to go into uni to do it, unless you've got a pretty bangin' folio.

Chris Ratcliffe'll probably wade in here soon, think we spent 3 hours talking about it 'til 2am one night...

Yeah DSLRs are very nice!!!

If I got one I would definatley go for a Nikon D70, without a doubt!

Yeah thats right tom we have digital portfolios ;)

Na, I need to get a proper print based on with my "best" shots in and stuff!

Yeah that would be mint if chris could come and give some advice!!

Is that section 7 yeh?

Cheers guys Rob :( ^_^

Rigital Rebel is the American name for the EOS 300D. Search Canon outlet on Ebay for refurbished cameras straight from Canon: good deals to be had.

*don't bother with digital unless its a top dog DSLR

*get on an HND or something, pretty vital, you really do need to know your shit.....alot!

*you have to really commit to it, shoot loads.

*yeh theres loads of people doing it but most people are bollocks, if you're good enough you'll get work.

*submit stuff to mags

*its well hard making a living from sports photography unless you're a house photographer for a mag, which means you are one of the best in the country. Most people make a living from crap like weddings and portraits.

*its hard

Dosent it seem like everyone wants a job in photography? loads of people i know are doing media course and stuff at college.

Yeh pretty much! I do media as well as graphics! I need to do subjects all in the same area if I want to do photography! Like stuff in arts and sciences!

Yes there are other people doing it but if they dont know what there talking about then why are they even on the course!!?

Already tried to submit stuff to mbuk!

Do you study photography and what do you do?? Have you done any of this!?

Im currently doing a ND (half way through/ two year course) and will do a HND afterwards.

Like most things, practice... lots. (Im terrible at it, but hope to one day get good enough to make a living from it).

Get a nice portfolio together...

Im sure if you look about on the internet you will find some sites that will give advice on how to get into sports photography. I want to be a motorsport photographer and I found some sites on the net with tips/advice on it. So surely there is something for general sports.

Be original, and again... practice.

Good Luck.
