PaRtZ
i know that if i was to have a memorial when i die, i'd like people to make use of it :( ← lol Will same here. If I go before you make my tombstone with a gap to rail nearby? :) Yeah I am completly against riding memorials, graveyards and memorial benches. I've seen some amazing lines i could actually do (for once) but as its a memorial bench, im not going to even consider it Big  from me
Trials Punk
Yes I'm sure dead people wouldn't mind you riding their war memorials. In fact they might even be impressed. The point is that THEY ARE THERE FOR US TO REMEMBER THEM AND FOR US NEVER TO FORGET THEM. So I don't think the fact that those people who have died wouldn't mind it. Thats not for us to decided. Yes those people died for our future, but did they die to let people ride over and sometimes damage what is there to remember them. No. The memorials are there for us to look at and remember how many millions of people who died.
zoojames
To be honest, if I was in a war, died, and had a memorial put up for me, I woudln't really give a monkeys if someone rode a peice of stone supposed to represent me, I'd rather be buried at home near the people I love rather than have my name someplace that means jack all to me... I'm also a person who thinks wars/armies are stupid... I hate the whole idea of pointless conflicts for power  meh one day everything will be peacefull and boring but thats the way I like it! Siders77
I would NEVER ride a memorial! I think it's so disrespectful! how would you feel if one of YOUR grandparents died in the war, you went to see them and you found out that their grave stone had been badly damages just 'cause there was a nice gap there?! I personally would be bloody mad and upset! Ah well, that's my 2 pence

Enigma
"Tell them of us and say, For their tomorrow, We gave our today." does that not say it all. They gave up things they loved so that we could have the privalage to even ride trials. So we at least owe them the right to have a nice respectful memorial without huge chunks taken out by bashguards by thoughtless individuals. Ask yourself would you give your life so others could live with freedom?
manuel
odd one this ..... I dont ride them because other people really care about them and what they mean to them ..... personally - im not keen on them - I dont like them because I dont really want to remember that a f**king shit load of people died for pretty crap reasons in pretty horrible ways, all the time - i know what happened I know that Theyre heros - but they did that so we can get on with stuff now.... so i would prefer if everyone had the same attitude and it was ok to ride on them - celbrate life ..... but as that aint gonna happen ..... NO RIDING - not because it will give trials a bad name but because of a little respect to peoples beliefs and feelings.
JT!
I would never ride on as such. But maby if there was a good gap that you wanted on film or something, i'd do it once and never do it again, if you know what i mean. And i would definatly do it UCI. James (Y) ← i think that world peace is very doubtful. i dont beleive there will ever be peace. "Tell them of us and say, For their tomorrow, We gave our today." we do seem to be very selfish these days dont we.....50ish years ago, our ancestors(?) fought for us and for our freedom for the future......yet if you look at it, today we talk about global warming and it affecting our earth and that our children etc will have a worse world (you know what im getting at) yet nothing seems to be acted upon. yeah we here all these conferences about global warming with Bush and Blair, yet how long will it actually take to make a change??? and i quote from the TV (something along the lines of) we have actually started to realise that global warming is affecting our earth full stop. ;)

James (Y) ← Well to be honest the main reason why memorials are here are for PEOPLE TO REMEMBER AND NEVER FORGET. Thats the point I've been trying to get across but you obviously can't read. The piece of stone is not meant to represent you. It would have been there to remember (how many times have I said this now?). Imagine this, there were no memorials over here in the UK. None at all. The only things here to remember fallen victims of the World Wars was the odd one or two gravestones in your local church yard. How often do you go into a church yard and see a gravestone of a World War victim. Not often I think. Without the memorials alot of people would have now forgotten what had happened. I doubt there would be any marches in memory of them either. I agree with you on the fact that wars/armies are stupid. They are stupid I wish they did't exist. But here you sound like you were suggesting that the fact that Britain went to war with the axis powers was pointless and stupid. They were in no way going into the conflict for power, they were defending thier allies countrys before the axis got to Britain (which they nearly did). We only had a struggle for power at the very end of the war which was between Britain, US and Russia. This was over technology though. The cold war started straight after WWII ended. Why can't we just leave the monuments there, not damaging them. So that people after us can see them and think what they were for, ask questions and remember what happened. Waynio
i personally think as long as you arent doing any damage it is ok. if you landing on your bashring or twangging your pedals down all the time on it i feel it be a little dis respectful. if your doing damage then yes it is, if your not and its not causing any problems to fellow citizens then no problem, if you get asked to move along and get cheeky then that is purely dis respectful in all areas. being polite and saying you will move on is fine. we have had the police (in Keighley) watch us ride on it, they were saying as long as no damage is done they didnt mind, altho the 3 police officers who said that were being very kool with us and we were being kool with them. they even wanted us to pull some wheelies for them :turned: if the police dont mind it then i suppose it would be ok, but if an older more mature person asks you to move on dont react back and give them crap. thats my thorts on it any way. Waynio................... Altho i havent actually ridden on the memorial for quite along time. i always ride around it as there is better things around it rather than on it. hazzyhaslam
I don't ride on them. The main reason I don't is because they are there for the thousands of families that have no grave side to go to. No fathers, mothers, daugters or sons to visit. With no bodies to bury; these memorials are the only places that they have to go to pay respect to there loved ones. Think about it, If one of your family died at war and there bodies were never found wouldn't you want somewhere peaceful and respectful to remember them? I know I would. I'd want an untouched haven to go and commemorate these fallen men and the thought that the memorial was damaged in anyway would make me feel sick. As other people have said, there are better places to ride. Some of you need to take a reality check.
Towler
I don't ride on them due to people thinking what a little nasty bugger, got rocks and plenty other things to ride near me so i don't see the need. Even if it is a bench dedicated to someone, just incase I annoy or hurt someones feelings.

Ali C
When I ride keighley I normally go on the war memorial but I didnt actually know it was a war memorial untill recently, I never really looked at it. It wont stop me riding on it, its pretty nice. this is going to sound worse than it is (probably) but war memorials dont really mean much to me, thinking about how people died is probably the last thing that goes through my mind when I see one. Waynio
its one of those things that some people will look at it in different ways to maybe their religion and stuff. but the main reason is, no damage being done means you aint really being dis respectful my personal opinion iv seen people go on the memorial in keighley and bash it and iv held my head in my hands and thort "F**K" and then just said "come on please dont use use bash or pedals to get up it" and people seem kool to listen as we all know what it is. and we do respect that we dont want to damage it. Waynio.......................... if people saw the one we ride on in keighley i think most would be possessed into going on it as there is a couple of good things to do on it. Get off your damn high horse and stop trying to act all mature, you come accross as an idiot in a grown-up conversation. Get some perspective. Brian Bleech
I think a little tact is called for sometimes. If you are gonna ride on memorials, make sure there aren't any people around looking like they are having a sit remembering their dad, husband, whatever. Come back later - it will still be there! Don't ride them on remembrance day and near that time. Be sensible. I am lucky as they aren't any war memorials to ride on in leeds, so I don't often face this problem. We do ride on walls near one (but aren't part of the memorial) and we got asked to move on, so we did. To repeat what Wayne said if you ride on one, thats your choice, but if you get ask to move on, don't kick up a fuss. If you do your a knob!!!
