PaRtZ
I've kind of destroyed the thread in my magura mounts. My friends got a tapping set but does anyone know what size it is before we get it out and do it? lol M4? M3? Other? Thanks Edited June 10, 2005 by PaRtZ
Mark W
Don't tap it. Get a helicoil set, and you'll need to bear in mind it's an M5 thread. Helicoiling it means it'll be a stronger set up (if you strip the M6 thread you'd tap it out to, you're f**ked, and you'll have to drill out your booster, clamps and so on anyway for the M6), and no mod'ing of your parts. ScotchDave
Also if you helicoil it to m5, then somehow kill it again you can then helicoil it to m6. (Y)
PaRtZ
um whats wrong with tapping it though? Where can i get a helicoil kit as soon as poss? and wont I have to get larger magura bolts to fit an M5 thread?

Mark W
Like Div said like I said ((Y)), if you tap it out to M6, you've got a few problems: 1. If you strip it again, what then? M7? 2. If you tap the threads out, you'll need to drill out your clamps so the bolts will fit through. 3. If you've had to drill your clamps, you'll also have to drill your booster. 4. The tapped threads won't be as strong as a helicoil. Helicoil kits are pretty readily available from most hardware shops for around £15-20, I think. However, most engineering firms/companies/car garages/some bike shops will be able to do it for you.
