colly
we doing a 2 demos this week end and on the sunday i though maybe getting some wood and nailing 2 pallets together to get a good strong and intresting shape and making some odd shapes with them rather than the boring old stacks of pallets we also have 20 cotton reels (various sizes) about 30-50 pallets and 3 tractor tyres. so has any body got any good ideas with these rather than just boring big flat gaps to piles of pallets? thanks
Smo™
If you haven't already, try and find the TRAVinco, Recovery and Indoor vids. Also the videos of Kenneth Stubo and Thomas Ohler. They're all indoors with various pallet set-ups. Maybe you could copy some of those.
colly
yeh ive got some of them, that are the type of things i was thinking like odd man made shapes sure to be a hit with the crowd 'luk at his tyre uw its sticking to a corner ew'
Smo™
Now I think about it, what about the Area 51 vids? With Peter Backgren (sp)? I seem to remember them being a little different.
Mark W
D'you mean like nailing 3 of them together with some supports to make a huge triangle or something? If so, try checking out some indoor motorbike trials videos (or some of the Spanish biketrials rounds) for some weird man-made obstacle ideas (Y)
Brian Bleech
I don't mean this in an offensive way or anything (I have never to my knowledge seen you ride) Making some interesting obsticles and stuff to ride on is a great, but make sure you can still ride what you make, because watching a demo where you keep falling off would be...well...crap! Other than that go for it, and take pics of what you make mike

PaRtZ
*Cough* Freeride trials  We've done an indoor competition where everything was seriously rock solid. you dont need to nail the pallets, our secret was to get those adjustable car straps for about £3 each and just strap a stack of 4 etc together. This creates a very strong structure without damaging the pallets AND you can re-use again. Also if you are using blue pallets, make sure you keep an eye on the plastic bits at the end. They bend quite quickly and when someone rides on it harshly.... *crack!* As for the tractor tyres, obviously you can have one upright but if you lie 1 down and put a pallet on top... voila! a bouncy castle (Y):D PM me mate if you want a few more ideas =8¬). Hope this helps
colly
yes we wil make sure we can ride them, just square flat pallets look crap for the crowd, quier obstacles look good i think. been studying some motor trials videos, alough they a lot more metal skips etc, alough there is a lot of cotton reels bolted together. just its how we can fix them together in 2 hours (Y)
Mark W
I meant more the style of obstacle like the Embassy/Marlboro cigarette packs at the Sheffield indoor round and so on. Just different objects and so on, putting pallets on their sides and so on. Just try it out, I guess...
PaRtZ
Just cut a different corner off a few pallets and see you come out with. <- Idea dont blame me! You can saw the bottom of a Dot Cotton reel too to give it more stability Hmmm. Logs? Rocks? You could cut a few pallets into 4 strips and have either a balancing length of a thin right angle obstacle? By the way, do you have to give these pallets back? EDIT: Remebered this: Its Ali BTW (Y). I don't know how they managed to keep it together, but that was definitly interesting Edited June 10, 2005 by PaRtZ

I don't know how they managed to keep it together, but that was definitly interesting ← I made that bit (Y) the slanted pallets, nailed wood to back to stop them sliding then raised one end, the ood on front is good to have keeps to extra solid and nice to bump. get that done, so much fun them slanted pallets. Waynio
best way to be about it is just creative just wack things here there and every where!!!! the other way you could do it like i have done. go to your local steel workman and ask if he can supply you with approx £120/150 worth of 1" box steel. weld together approx 2x 3ft square boxes and 1x 4ft square boxes then get pallets and cotton reels and place them around the other items and bobs you uncle you only need a trailor to cart the boxes around and a few of the pallets too. also if you have the money for any more make like a stair way like 2 long flat pieces of steel and like 3 steps up and 3 steps down. with gaps between so its like a rail gap going up and up and up then down n down n down. i got lucky and have been doing a bit of on the side work for a dude from a company called Tarmac and the guy kindly agreed to supply me the steel quite cheap and weld it together for free as im doing him a demo next month.
