Synergy
ok here it goes i will try and explain it properly: three guys walk into a hotel and ask for one room with three beds. once they unpack they decide to go downstairs and pay for the night, so they ask the receptionist how much it would cost. she replies that will be thirty pound please, so as there is 3 men they decide to pay £10 each. unfortunately the lady makes a mistake as she finds out it is only £25 for the room altogether. she decides that since they cant split the £5 between them she will give them £1 each and take £2 herself. so that means the men only pay £9 per room instead of the £10 If we add this up: Receptionists £2 Man 1 £9 man 2 £9 Man 3 £9 9+9+9+2 = 29. (Y) where did the other pound go? Edited June 9, 2005 by Synergy

It was that comedy called 'Help' by Paul Whitehouse. :D Btw I thought it was a fake riddle and he just did it to annoy the maths bloke? JT!
9+9+9+2 = 29. (Y) ← You don't add the £2, you take it away. 9+9+9-2 = £25. Which is what they payed.
Synergy
You don't add the £2, you take it away. 9+9+9-2 = £25. Which is what they payed. ← no there was £30 altogether so you have to find all that money.
JT!
There wasn't £30, there was £25. At the start they payed £10 each. 3x£10= £30. They then got a £1 back each. So they payed £9 each. 3x9= £27. The the woman kept £2. £27 - £2 = £25. (which is what they were charged). In the riddle, you were adding the £2. (Y) Edited June 9, 2005 by JT! (Y) ← yeah, your right, so its not exactly a riddle at all..... its obvious.....they pay £10 each =£30, she gives them £1 back, so they are paying £9, and theres £2 left which she takes!!!! JT!
*smack* Here is a proper one.... The fish and chip shop owner asked for a sign to be made. The guy delivered the sign and this is what it looked like: "This is not what he wanted" said the owner of the shop to the delivery man. "Why?" Said the delivery man. What the owner said next was a grammatically correct sentence that contained the same word repeated five times, one after the other. What was that sentence that the owner said? :D BTW, you can't search for it on google as i have changed it slightly. ( (Y) ) Edited June 10, 2005 by JT! Then take it from there. The pic of the sign above is exactly what the sign looks like. (Y) Edited June 9, 2005 by JT!

Synergy
no there was £30 pound altogether at the start right? so it all has to add up to thirty pound does it not?! at start 10 10 10 at end 9 9 9 2 they aint same totals
Brian Bleech
no there was £30 pound altogether at the start right? so it all has to add up to thirty pound does it not?! at start 10 10 10 at end 9 9 9 2 they aint same totals ← your working it out wrong! The way its worded is dodgy and not mathmatically correct. think about the 'actions' she would take... room = £30 thats the wrong price so she takes £5 back out of the till so room = £25 and keeps £2 for herself and gives guy 1 - £1 guy 2 - £1 guy 3 - £1 so we now have £25 in the till and (2+1+1+1=) £5 in the pockets of the woman and the three guys. Therefore 25 + 5 = 30 the thirty pounds is still there, its just wrong maths! mike

Tartridge
if they had thirty pound at start all the maths should add up to thirty pound right? ← Correct! £30 given to the woman. Keeps £2 herself. Gives £1 back to each of three men. Whats 1 + 1 + 1 + 2? Yes, five. £5 (whats been taken by the four people) plus £25 (gone in the till) = £30 (what they started with) Haha, I've just repeated what Mike said... sorry dude (Y)
Synergy
no that ain't the real answer thats what i'm trying to say lol you guys ain't working it out right way or listening to what / how i'm saying it. answer is if it was £25 for the room and they paid 9 pound each 9 add 9 add 9 isn't 25 its 27 and if u divide 25 by three you find out they should have paid 8.3333333 each so the three "0.333333333333s" add up to give you the other pound that was missing IF you had listened to the way i said the riddle
