biketrialler
Hey guys. Wondering if anyone knows what happens when you get done by a speed gun at the side of the road when youre driving. A mate was out last week and was doing 40 in a 30 limit and was seen targeted etc by a speed gun person at the side of the road. He never got pulled over further down the road, and nothing has come in the post or anything yet. Was wondering if that means he is clear, or if they post something to him, or what. Thanks Me. munkee
i'd expect your mates still f**ked, if you think about the amount people who speed and the time it takes for all the paper work and forms sent off. Ive known a couple of people including my dad who got a ticket over a month later. The registration would be noted down at least i would have thought? rich4130
The exact same thing happened to my dad, ooh gotta be 6 months back, nothing ever came of it, they were posisitioned in a spot where you wouldn't see them, and they got him doing 40ish in a 30 limit. He's been driving like a nun ever since, so maybe thats the reason for them haha. Edit: Showed this the old man, he looked into it when It happened to him. Basically if nothing (I.e. a summons..) arrives in the post within 7 working days he'll be fine. What kind of road was it? this one was a sleepy little village that obviously shouldnt be a 30 limit hehe. (Y) but they dont know who u are ← reg plate surely???? but they might just be checking speed limits on that road etc....but i beleive they would be able to capture the reg plate and post letter. i think they work by calculating how much distance is covered in a certain of time???? some how. biketrialler
Yeah they do the time distance thing between 2 points. I got pulled over on tuesday night and done for 3 points (Y) It seems like they're doing a big crack down! hehe. I'll let my mate know that he's probably ok if nothing comes within 2 weeks then. N.Wood
i think they work by calculating how much distance is covered in a certain of time???? some how. ← Hehe, thats generally how speed is worked out (Y)" Maybe another car was travelling faster than you and they went for them instead? sfboy
I know there's a trick to get out of the speed guns... dunno if it works though, something to do with the calibration, legal stuff. Try searching ebay.
PaRtZ
Well if he was driving at 200mph they wouldn't get him =;¬) I don't endorse this by the way (Y)" Secondly If you did get asked to pullover, get out the car and before he can see you both of you sit on one side of the car. Then when he asks "Who was driving?" I do believe its illegal to incriminate yourself. I.E. your mate can't say "I was" If not 100% sure on this though. If someone with legal knowledge would like to correct me then please do so lol I have no idea though if the registration is stored in the gun or not. Sorry mate. TomR
To be done you have to be able to see artleast a third(maybe two thirds) of the vehicle the cops from, and the cop himself. I also think they have to show you the reading on the gun. And if you get done by a gatso, theyve only got 14 days to get the ticket/notification to you else its void and you can refuse to pay. Try searching ebay. ← Yeah, if the equipment hasnt been calibrated that day then it could give a false reading. Also if you get pulled over and the patrol car hasnt had its daily calibration then theyve no right to pull you over in the first place. Lewis Poyntontrials.com
Speed cameras scare me. I always go through 30mph ones at like 20 :D Got cought by a gunner on the road doing 35 in a 30 but I think I was ok. I always look out for them now. MrMonkey
You can get little scramblers or something that jam the signal for your car, and they wreck the gun aswell. Or maybe I'm talking out my arse.
mcajh
I am pretty sure with a speed gun thing you have to be pulled there and then. Radar gun only calculates your speed, doesnt record number plate etc. I think the usual drill is one police man with gun up road, one policeman in car/on motorbike waiting to pull you further down the road. Or maybe I'm talking out my arse. ← Yup. Not ilegal to sell them, but it is to use them. The law rocks. (Y) The best equipment to get is probably a book on how not to speed. :D I believe there is a bit of kit that can detect a camera, but by the time its detected it, you only have seconds to slow down enough anyway. Best thing to do is just know the locations of the cameras, or even better, get a GPS with the locations of them installed, which will then warn you when your getting close. Hiltop
The Police have 14 days to send you a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP). They also get an allowance of a couple of days for the post to deliver it. So if its more than 17 days since you were flashed they are too late to prosecute you, unless you were driving a company car, hire car or someone else's car. In these circumstances they are allowed more time to track you down. If you do get the letter you they have up to 6 months till you go to court. Laser jammers are a hard subject. technically there is no law banning them yet, however people have been done for perverting the course of justice carrying a maximum sentence of 7 years. gps systems are quite good, but the laser guns have huge range before and there is little you can do, most usally catch you well before you can see them. i personally hate speed cameras and my precious 6 point dont want to be lost for speeding. If it was cops standing at the side of the road with a radar gun, all they get is a readout of the speed. If you were going to be done, they would have pulled you over half a mile down the road. munkee
All those radar detection things, road angels etc dont work good at all (Y) They are too busy saying BAND 3 RADAR DETECTED and all this shit.. when your actually going past the supermarket automatic doors.... For their price they arent worth it unless your a heavy motorway user.
Towler
They have to come get you apparently, and if it is just 1 on their own and they do come get you, They will probably give you a warning, because of all the paperwork.
